Isn’t it the worst when your washing machine starts to smell a bit.. off? You open the drawer or door seal and there it is - that gunky, grimy, hairy build-up that’s just a bit yucky.

Over time, detergent residue, lint and trapped moisture all combine to create that musty smell we’d rather not think about. It’s completely normal, but definitely not pleasant - and it’s the reason clothes sometimes come out of the wash smelling less than fresh.

When I tackle it, I deep clean every nook and cranny - drawer compartments, rubber seals, filter, and drum; using safe, effective products that break down grime and bacteria instead of just masking it. Once it’s done, the difference is huge - your washing machine looks newer, smells fresh and your clothes come out truly clean again.

Fresh, soft and purely perfect every time - my best laundry hacks.. we don’t go gatekeeping around here!

Laundry doesn’t have to be a chore.
Here are my go-to tips for cleaner, fresher clothes:

1. Don’t overload your machine:
Clothes need space to move so water and detergent can reach every fibre. Overloading = dull, still-dirty laundry.

2. Use the right amount of detergent:
Too much leaves residue, too little won’t clean properly. Follow the instructions and adjust for load size.

3. Ditch the fabric softener on towels:
It can coat fibres and reduce absorbency. Swap for a splash of white vinegar in the rinse cycle for softness without build-up.

4. Wash inside out:
Protect colours, prevent fading and keep printed designs looking new.

5. Ice cube trick for creases:
Pop a few ice cubes in the tumble dryer with wrinkled clothes for 5 minutes – the steam helps smooth them out.

6. Clean your washing machine:
Run an empty hot wash with vinegar or a machine cleaner monthly. A clean machine = clean clothes.

Here are a few common myths we hear all the time:

❌ Using too much product can leave sticky residue, attract more dirt and waste money. Always follow the recommended amount.

2. “Vinegar cleans everything.”
❌ Vinegar is great for some surfaces, but it can damage natural stone, certain metals and sealants. It’s not a one-size-fits-all solution.

3. “Disinfectants clean AND sanitise.”
❌ Dirt and grease must be cleaned away first for disinfectants to work effectively. Cleaning and sanitising are two separate steps.
