The very first M535i was the E12 replaced by the e28 m535i the early 535i 535is m5’s and M535i m tech 1’s where in fact based on the e12 m535i as they had chrome bumper’s not plastic they became m tech 2 with the edition of shadow lining the chrome in satin black, an early version of a face lifting of the older model cars, the early e12 was a handful to drive with minimal safety features as was the bmw 2002 turbo that spawned from the touring and possibly rally scene back in the early days of bmw’s fight to survive, the e28 saved the company and helped make it renowned for its 80s generation of over engineering that had every school boy looking in the window dreaming of one day owning a 218 bhp non M or a
286 bhp M powered E28 that kept up with Ferraris and 911’s and other cars that broke the sound barrier back in the day, in 1990 the ruling on sound emissions generated from the exhaust of the engines came strongly into force beginning the use of the catalytic converter that changed the tone of these cars forever dropping bhp making bmw change their pursuit of pure petrol harmony making these cars even more iconic forever.
