Four years and counting!

We're delighted to share that Haus Maids has renewed our sponsorship of Farnham Swimming Club for a fourth year running.

Since 2023 we've been proud to back one of Farnham's most historic clubs - first established all the way back in 1893 - as they train and support swimmers of every age right here in our community. From first splashes through to competitive galas, the club does brilliant work giving local people the chance to get in the water, stay active and thrive.

Supporting our local community is at the heart of what we do at Haus Maids, and there are few things we're prouder to stand behind than a club like this. Here's to another year!

Proud to help Farnham bloom!

We're delighted to be among the local businesses supporting Farnham in Bloom this year.

If you've walked through town lately and noticed the hanging baskets, planters and floral displays brightening up our streets - that's what this scheme is all about. Together, the businesses backing it have contributed almost £20,000 towards keeping Farnham colourful, green and welcoming for everyone who lives, works and visits here.

Supporting our local community is at the heart of what we do at Haus Maids, and helping our town look its very best is something we're genuinely proud to be part of.

Here's to a blooming brilliant Farnham!

In 1696, England taxed homes by the number of windows they had. More windows, more tax, so people bricked theirs up rather than pay. Whole rooms were plunged into darkness and you can still spot the blocked-up openings on old buildings today.

We think that’s a bit sad. Windows are one of the best things about a home - light, warmth, a view of the garden as long as they’re clean.

Good news: nobody’s taxing your windows anymore. The only thing dimming the light now is a bit of dirt on the glass. And that part we can help with - cleaning the insides of your windows is one of the services we offer. www.hausmaids.co.uk

England play Argentina on Wednesday night. So, naturally, we started wondering how the Argentinians talk about their homes and found something rather nice.

The main language there is Spanish, and it turns out they do exactly what we do: they have one word for the building, and a different one for the home. Casa and hogar - just like our house and home.
What's lovely is where each language got that second word from.

Ours, “home”, comes from the Old English hām - meaning a settlement, a homestead. The place you’re from. The place you belong.

Theirs, hogar, comes from the Latin for hearth. The fireplace. So in Spanish, a home isn’t the place you belong - it’s the fire that everyone gathers round. (It’s where we get “focus” from, funnily enough. The fireplace was the thing the whole house was pointed at.)

On Wednesday evening, the focal point of the home won’t be the fireplace. It’ll be the telly - and for two hours, every room in the country will be pointed the same way.

Which makes both languages right at once. The place you belong, and the fire you all gather round.

We’ll look after the house. The home is your bit.

Come on England.

If Haus Maids were a Norwegian company, we’d have a slightly different name over the door: Hus Maids.

In Norway, a house is a hus and that’s no coincidence. English house, German Haus and Norwegian hus are all the same word, each inherited from a single ancient Germanic ancestor.

Over the centuries, English and German both did the same thing to it, stretching that old vowel into the “ow” sound you hear in house and Haus, which is why those two are near-identical. Norwegian took the quieter route and kept it as one clean vowel: hus.

The Vikings even built new words from it and handed them to English. Husband started life as húsbóndi - a “house-dweller.” Hustings, where politicians still stand at election time, comes from hústhing: a “house-assembly.”

Haus is, of course, the German spelling. But this Saturday, with England facing Norway? For one night only, we’re House Maids.

Come on England. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Grass court season has a certain elegance to it, a sense that summer has properly arrived. Whites pressed, lawns immaculate, and the best afternoons spent doing very little at all.

We think a home should feel the same way. Effortless, immaculate, and ready for the moment - without you having lifted a finger to make it so.

That’s the Haus Maids difference. You enjoy the summer. We’ll look after the rest.

Proud to be part of Farnham in Bloom!

We're delighted to have sponsored one of the flower troughs helping to brighten up Farnham this summer. You'll find ours in the Central car park, along the main walkway that runs through to the Borough (just behind Boots) - so do keep an eye out for it next time you're in town!

At Haus Maids, we love making homes across Farnham sparkle, so it feels only right to help make the town centre look its best too. There's nothing quite like a bit of colour to lift the spirits as you go about your day.

The judging takes place next week, and we want to wish the whole Farnham in Bloom team the very best of luck. Farnham always does us proud - here's hoping for another blooming brilliant result! Farnham Town Council
