With the prolonged wet and damp weather we’re seeing, it’s worth reminding homeowners of something simple but important.

Using your chimney helps keep it dry and functioning properly.

When a chimney isn’t used for long periods — especially in persistent rain and high humidity — moisture can build up inside the flue. That damp can lead to:
• Poor draw
• Tar and creosote issues
• Deterioration of liners and masonry
• Damp smells and staining inside the property

Occasional, correct use helps warm the flue, encourages airflow, and drives out moisture. Combine that with seasoned fuel, good ventilation, and regular sweeping, and your chimney stays healthier for longer.

As always, if you’re unsure about the condition of your chimney or flue, have it checked by a competent, registered sweep.

Dry flues are safer flues.

Why should you avoid slumbering your stove? 🤔

It can lead to:
🔴 Sooty and/or dry deposits on the flue lining
🔴 Increased levels of carbon monoxide and particulates
🔴 Increased likelihood of condensation within the chimney
