So I recently attended a course for ear wax removal. I've been qualified for 18 years as a Hearing Aid Dispenser and ECP, but decided to focus on the ear wax removal as a mobile business. As technology is constantly improving, I decided to attend a course for ear wax removal to take a look at the latest tech. The course itself was informative and basic. But it was surprising to find that I was the only one there with any previous experience. After less than 8 hours, all in the class received a certificate of competency and were considered qualified and ready to start their own business. When I arrived and looked around for the "volunteers" to practice on, I was shocked to hear that there weren't any. So everyone there passed a test of competency without ever touching a real person's ear!
Yes, people are starting a fashionable side business to make a few extra £££'s after just 8 hours in a classroom and having never worked on another human!
Ear wax removal is a delicate and precise procedure. It takes time to learn the intricacies. Each ear canal is unique.
Please be careful when booking to have your ear wax removed! Ask not only about qualifications, but also about experience. Ear wax removal is not a fashionable side hustle, it's a profession! Choose your Ear Care Practitioner carefully.
*The image shows a practice model...this model has a "perfect" ear canal, it's never had an infection, surgery or injury. There's no dry skin, debris or hardened impacted wax. This model can't flinch or squirm or say it's uncomfortable. These are all part of the "real world". It doesn't matter how good or expensive the tech is, if the handler hasn't got enough experience, it's not safe!
