A little reminder that behind every small business is a real person. 💚
This morning I received a phone call that genuinely upset me.
Someone contacted us after being unhappy with another cleaning company. I listened, tried to help, offered advice, suggested contacting the original company to give them the chance to put things right (as that’s exactly what we’d want our own clients to do), and even suggested other options as we’re currently fully booked going well into August.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough.
I was told “that’s the problem you young people today don’t want to work,” that “you don’t know how to run a business,” and that “you’ll never compete with the bigger companies.”
The truth is, we’re a family business that works long days, evenings and weekends. We genuinely care about every client and always try our best to help, even when we can’t take on the work ourselves.
I completely understand that people have bad days we see that every day in the work we do. But business owners have difficult days too.
This is probably the first time I’ve openly said this, but I’m going through a very difficult time personally at the moment. Like many business owners, I keep that private, remain professional, and continue turning up every day to provide the best service I can.
So when someone chooses to be abusive because you’re fully booked this week, it hits harder than they could ever know.
Thankfully, this is very rare. The vast majority of our customers and potential customers are incredibly kind, patient and understanding, and for that I can’t thank you enough.
Please remember that there is a real person on the other end of the phone. Kindness and respect cost nothing, and you never truly know what someone else is carrying.
