Before and After

Looking back to when we were appointed to clean these handsome lions.

The two stone lions were gifted by Robert Dollar to Falkirk on the occasion of his visit in 1924. They were initially erected at the entrance of Dollar Park in a prominent position, each one on either side of the carriage drive leading into the park; a short distance behind the main entrance gates. The sculptures were 10 feet high from top to base. Both sculptures are of Oriental style. The stone used was Chinese marble. They were sent to Falkirk at Robert Dollar's instructions all the way from Peking/Beijing. The er****on of the statues was carried out under the supervision of W. Roberts, sculptor. - Falkirk Council
