💧Hose pipe ban: how does it impact hot tub owners?
With Anglian water bringing in a regional hose pipe ban from tomorrow (aka Temporary Use Ban), we want to help hot tub owners understand what it means for you.
Can I use a hose to fill my hot tub at home?
❌ No. Under the restrictions you are not allowed to use a hose (connected to mains water) to fill up, or top up, a hot tub, swim spa or ice bath at home.
While you can’t use a hose, we do recommend keeping your water level topped up using a clean bucket or watering can to maintain a healthy water chemistry balance and to ensure you have good filtration and optimal efficiency.
Does the ban apply to everyone?
❌✅ The restrictions apply to almost everyone supplied by Anglian water although there are a few exemptions for some people in laying some health conditions, some blue badge holders or registered priority service users. For details of these check with Anglian Water. There are also some exemptions for businesses.
Can you fill a hot tub as part of a business?
✅ Businesses with a hot tub or swim spa as part of accommodation e.g holiday lets, lodges and holiday parks, air bnb cottages etc, are permitted to refill these in line with HSG282 and BISHTA guidance.
Can I get my hot tub serviced or repaired?
✅ Yes. As a business we have exemptions that allow us to carry out maintenance, repair and servicing work for hot tubs and swim spas in homes and at business sites. We are allowed to use your on site mains water supply to refill your spa. Any booked in appointments will be unaffected and we’re able to continue taking bookings - just give us a call.
We are still mindful of conserving water and where appropriate for repairs, we can pump water into temporary bladders (that our technicians have with them), carry out any repair and then refill from the bladder where water quality allows.
Can I still have my new hot tub or swim spa installed?
✅ Yes. This won’t impact our ability to deliver and install any new spas. They will be filled as part of being commissioned by our team on site.
We are really mindful of being careful of our water use and sharing resources so over the next week we’ll be sharing advice on the best ways to manage your spa to prolong the water quality and other ways to save water.
We have also worked with Bishta - British and Irish Spa and Hot Tub Association on their technical advisory panel, creating some more detailed guidance - we’ll share this in the comments.
