Tip for Tuesday

Burn at the Correct Temperature
There should always be enough air entering the appliance to allow the fire to burn at a suitable temperature.
Burning too slowly or with the air controls closed down can:
• Cool the flue gases
• Cause tar and creosote to form
• Increase the risk of chimney fires
A properly operated appliance should produce a warm flue and a clean, efficient burn.

Tip for Tuesday

Using Your Stove Air Controls Correctly
If your appliance has two air controls:
• Top air control – generally used when burning wood
• Bottom air control – primary air inlet for coal or smokeless fuels
If your appliance has only one air control, this is usually a dedicated wood-burning stove.

People always ask us how to clean the glass on a stove
1 When you empty the ash pan get some damp kitchen paper and dip it in the ash (only use wood ashes as coal ash can scratch the glass)
2 Rub the damp ash on the glass (rub hard on the stained parts of the glass)
3 When the glass is dry buff with dry kitchen paper

Contact us if you require a stove maintenance or a sweep.
