Drainage systems don’t change in principle — but they do change in context.

Work underway on the MV Loch Tarbert, carrying out maintenance to both black water (foul) and grey water (waste) systems.

Operating in a marine environment introduces different constraints — access, containment, and system layout all require a more considered approach.

The fundamentals remain the same:
Maintain flow, prevent build-up, and ensure the system performs as intended.

What should be a straightforward pump replacement isn’t always that simple.

In this case, the cable has been fed into the chamber through a cut section in the wall, with no continuous conduit installed.

That means the cable cannot be withdrawn or replaced in the usual way, turning a simple swap into a more involved job.

It also leaves the cable less protected than it should be within a working drainage system.

Small details during installation have a lasting impact.

Getting it right the first time ensures systems remain serviceable and straightforward to maintain.

Not all drainage problems start at the surface…

This was removed from a local drainage line after repeated blockages. Tree roots can enter small joints and quickly build into dense masses that restrict flow and trap debris.

If the same drain keeps blocking or water is slow to clear, the cause may be underground.

Always a different task. This one was a re-occurring blockage but after a brief investigation we found the problem. A shattered clay connection.
Quickly resolved much to the clients relief

Another drainage issue resolved in Dunoon/Cowal ✅
These photos show a blockage causing restricted flow and surcharge. We attended, jetted the line, restored the run, and removed heavy build-up from the chamber to reduce the risk of repeat issues.

Most common cause we see? Non-flushable wipes and fibrous material.
Only flush the 3 Ps: p*e, poo & paper.

What a great day. A lot of defrosting this morning.
Client trusted us with this one. Badly fitted repair allowed root ingress blocking the drain. But what a view!
