📅 NOVEMBER & DECEMBER AVAILABILITY UPDATE

With November filling up quickly, I've put together an updated look at my remaining availability for the rest of the year.

As some of you may know, I'll be finishing a little earlier than usual this December, on Friday 18th December, to head up north and spend some well-deserved time with my family over the Christmas holidays. 🎄

I'll also be taking a slightly longer break over the New Year, returning on Monday 11th January 2027. This will give me the opportunity to attend further professional training in Birmingham, continuing to develop my knowledge and skills so I can keep offering the best possible service to my customers.

If you're hoping to get your carpets or upholstery professionally cleaned before Christmas, I'd recommend getting in touch sooner rather than later, particularly if you're looking for an appointment in December.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support, recommendations and bookings. It really does mean a lot to me as a small independent business.

❤️ LUCY’S 2K A DAY IN NOVEMBER CHALLENGE ❤️

My amazing 12-year-old daughter Lucy has decided she wants to do something special for her brother Liam

🏃‍♀️ From 1 November, Lucy is going to run 2km EVERY SINGLE DAY for 30 days!

That’s 60km throughout November, all to raise money to help make life safer for Liam.

As many of you may know, we’ve recently shared some very personal updates about our son Liam and the challenges our family has been facing.

Liam is almost 14, non-verbal and has profound autism and ADHD. Recently, he’s been experiencing periods of extreme distress, anxiety and self-injurious behaviour.

During these episodes, Liam seriously hurts himself by repeatedly banging his head against walls, doors and windows. He will also hurt those around him.

Thankfully, we’re starting to see some positive changes following yet another medication change, and we’re beginning to see our happy, loving Liam again. ❤️

He still has a long way to go, and one of our biggest priorities as a family is making our home a safer environment for him.

Over the last seven days, so many of our friends have asked how they can support us.

Unfortunately, Occupational Therapy no longer provides families with funding for SafeSpace beds, padded rooms and similar specialist safety equipment.

So, Lucy is hoping to raise enough money to provide Liam with a Safe and Sound Pod and a specially padded safe room.

These would give him a safe space when he’s overwhelmed and help protect him from serious injury during episodes of self-harm.

Her initial fundraising target is £5,090, which will fund a Safe and Sound Pod. I’m currently waiting on quotes for padding out Liam’s bedroom, and I’ve also contacted various charities to see if they can offer additional support.

We’re incredibly proud of Lucy for wanting to take this on for her brother. ❤️

Whether you can donate £2, £5, £10 or simply share Lucy’s challenge, every little bit will help her get closer to her goal.

Thank you for always being such an incredible community ❤️

What’s the difference between professional carpet cleaning and a domestic machine?

When choosing a carpet cleaner in Dunfermline or across Fife, it’s worth looking beyond the price alone.

Professional carpet cleaning is about more than simply putting water into a carpet and extracting it again.

I use professional extraction equipment featuring an inbuilt Magma heating system and a dedicated 130 PSI pump, alongside specialist tools and cleaning solutions selected for the carpet fibres and the type of soiling.

But equipment is only part of the equation. Knowing how different fibres respond to moisture, understanding stain chemistry, choosing the right cleaning solutions and controlling drying times all play an important role in achieving the best possible results.

Domestic carpet cleaners can be useful for routine home maintenance, but professional equipment and specialist knowledge allow me to tailor my approach to the carpet in front of me.

So, when comparing carpet cleaning quotes, ask yourself what you're actually paying for: the equipment, the experience and the knowledge behind the clean.

🧼 Thinking of using bleach on your carpet? Think again!

Bleach might seem like a quick solution for stubborn stains, but it can cause more problems than it solves.

Here's why I'd always recommend caution:

⚠️ Permanent colour loss – Bleach can strip the dye from your carpet, leaving pale, orange or discoloured patches that ordinary cleaning won't fix.

⚠️ Fibre damage – Some fibres, particularly wool, can be weakened or damaged by chlorine bleach.

⚠️ Damage beyond the surface – Depending on the carpet's construction, harsh chemicals can also affect the backing and adhesives.

⚠️ A stain that can't simply be cleaned away – Once the original carpet dye has been removed, specialist colour repair may be needed. Cleaning alone won't restore it.

💡 The important thing to remember: Removing a stain and removing the carpet's colour are two very different things!

Different stains and carpet fibres require different treatments. Using the wrong product can turn a removable stain into permanent damage.

If you're struggling with a stubborn stain, it's always worth getting professional advice before reaching for the bleach.

At Knight In Shining Armour Cleaning Co, I'd always rather assess a stain properly than risk causing unnecessary damage.
