☀️ Sun’s Out - Again (finally!) which means watch out for Adders! 🐍
We have had reports of an Adder spotted today in Happy Island, we also had a dog hospitalised on Friday after being bitten by an Adder at West Bexington.
Adders become more active across the UK as they bask out in the sun. These native snakes are usually shy, but dogs (and curious cats!) can accidentally disturb them - especially in long grass, heathland, woodland edges, and coastal paths.
What to watch for:
• Sudden yelp or pain while out walking
• Swelling (often around the face or leg)
• Lethargy, drooling, or vomiting
• Puncture wounds (sometimes hard to see)
What to do if you suspect a bite:
👉 Keep your pet calm and still
👉 Carry them if possible (to slow venom spread)
👉 Call your vet immediately
👉 Do not try to suck the venom or apply a tourniquet
Most pets recover well with prompt treatment, quick action can make all the difference. 💚
Enjoy the sunshine ☀️ try to keep to clear paths and be aware of the long grass.
