This job is a perfect example of why we spend so much time investigating before deciding on the best course of action.

Using our sonar detector, we located two hidden inspection chambers beneath the decking… it certainly earned its keep! 😮‍💨

Once the decking was lifted, we immediately discovered:

➡️ Rat burrows surrounding the drain inspection chamber.

➡️ Burrows leading directly towards the property.

➡️ Evidence suggesting the activity had been hidden beneath the decking for years.

This is exactly why simply putting bait down isn’t the answer.

At Tornado Pest Control, around 95% of our rodent work is carried out using trapping and proofing, with bait only used where it’s genuinely the safest and most appropriate option.

Another busy day completed with a good mix of pest control jobs, but once again the main focus has been wasps. 🐝💪

Here are a couple of wasp nests we’ve removed today. When you get to see them up close, they really are works of art, it’s just a shame the residents are so angry! 😂

The Role

You'll work across Doncaster and the surrounding areas, carrying out pest control services for both domestic and commercial customers.

Your duties will include:

Pest inspections and surveys
Rodent control
Wasp nest treatments
Insect control
Identifying and resolving the root cause of infestations
Providing proofing recommendations
Completing digital reports using our management system
Loft inspections and loft clearances
Supporting CCTV drain survey investigations where required
Delivering exceptional customer service on every visit

🦔 Not every hole under a fence means you have rats…

One of the biggest mistakes we see is people assuming any hole under a fence must be caused by rats. Unfortunately, that often leads to DIY methods being used before the pest has even been identified.

We’ve attended countless jobs where snap traps have been set, and even worse glue boards have been used.

⚠️ A reminder about glue traps: In England it is illegal for members of the public to use glue traps. Since the Glue Traps (Offences) Act came into force, only licensed pest control professionals can use them, and only in very limited exceptional circumstances where there is no suitable alternative. The legislation was introduced to prevent unnecessary suffering and to reduce the risk of non-target animals being caught.

At Tornado Pest Control, we invest in the right equipment. With over 30 CCTV inspection cameras, we can confirm exactly what’s using an area before any trapping treatment is considered. That means we protect wildlife and avoid unnecessary pest control.

On this occasion, our client did exactly the right thing. Instead of trying DIY methods, they called us for advice. We suspected the visitors were hedgehogs, and after reviewing the CCTV footage, that’s exactly what we found.

🦔 Hedgehogs often travel under fences using established routes known as “hedgehog highways.” They can cover surprisingly large distances every night while searching for insects, slugs, beetles and worms, making them fantastic natural pest controllers and an important part of our local wildlife.

No treatment was required, and our prickly visitor can continue its nightly patrol undisturbed.

Correct identification always comes before treatment. Sometimes the best pest control decision is knowing when no pest control is needed.

🏠 Renovation work complete… but is your home really sealed? 🐭

Luckily, we leave no stone unturned and don’t shy away from the awkward access points. It’s often these hidden areas that make all the difference.

Every renovation should finish with a thorough inspection to ensure any new gaps, voids or service penetrations are properly sealed.

Unfortunately many trades simply aren’t thinking about rodent proofing, or aren’t aware of the risks these openings can create.

🌪️ We’ve been a little quiet on social media lately… but for a good reason!

The past few months have been incredibly busy. We’ve secured some fantastic new contracts and our daily call outs just keep growing.

While that’s great news for the business, it does mean our social media has taken a bit of a back seat.

We are looking to recruit to help ease the workload. However with our Tornado wedding coming up in November, we’ve decided not to take on the extra pressure of onboarding and training someone this year.

Instead, we’re planning ahead. 🚀

2027 is going to be a huge year for Tornado Pest Control. We’re looking to recruit someone who is already qualified so we can hit the ground running and continue delivering the high standards our customers expect.

Although the wasp season had a slower start than usual, it’s now in full swing! 🐝

Yesterday we ended up stuck on a job until 9:30pm, not because we had to but because at Tornado we treat every job like it’s our own.

What should have been a basic CCTV drain inspection turned into a 5-hour groundworks mission 😂💪🏻

During the survey, we located two hidden chambers in a neighbouring garden. With authorisation from next door we gained access and began excavating using our sonde/locator to pinpoint the lines.

With 12 chambers on this property in total, we knew missing just one could mean missing the fault — so all 12 were inspected properly.

After working our way around the property, chamber 9 was where we finally struck gold.

We located a collapsed pipe leading to the downstairs toilet. On the footage you can clearly see the ingress point as we push vertically up the line with the foundations visible and gnawed pipework around the edge.

We continued checking the remaining chambers and also found what appears to be either a redundant line packed with rubble and brick from the build or potentially a dodgy soakaway.

The client has now been provided with clear recommendations to resolve the issue properly and help prevent reoccurring problems.

At Tornado, we don’t just “do a survey” we investigate, we push further and we get to the root cause.
