A customer contacted me suspecting a mole had moved into the garden, although there were no obvious mole hills there was a tiny eruption indicating the presence of a mole.
I soon identified a network of runs and installed three pairs of putange traps, catching the culprit before he was able to cause any damage.
If at all possible it's highly recommended to contact your local professional molecatcher at the earliest opportunity to minimise mole damage.
It sounds obvious but it's easier and cheaper to manage the problem early rather than to allow it to develop.

Been and pulled traps on the sheep fields this morning. 22 moles taken today, including 4 double catches, 1 caught the day the traps were set.
23 in total.
The customer must be pleased because he has recommended me to his sister for an equine job.

I have been busy trapping sheep fields today. Moles can present some serious issues for sheep, other livestock and horses.
Collapsed mole runs can cause lameness and broken limbs to livestock as well as aid the transmission of mole associated diseases such as listeria, clostridium and tuberculosis.
Aside from the physical risk to livestock, moles also impact negatively on agriculture in other ways such as soil from mole hills spoiling crops of silage and hay and damage caused to agricultural machinery and equipment.
Once the traps were set I quickly checked on the way out of the job and had already taken a mole in a talpex.

Particularly happy with this one. The garden is very sandy which posed the problem of the runs collapsing when trying to dig them out to set the traps. Because of the challenging conditions I installed two talpex traps and persevered until I found a suitable run to drop in a pair of putanges as an insurance policy. Despite the difficulties I'm pleased I persevered because the putanges got me the mole and got another job wrapped up.

I had a sneaky feeling that the 3 way junction that I trapped yesterday would produce a mole.
3 moles caught today on this garden job.
I'm 99% certain that this job is now finished, however I always reset traps and give them a second day in the ground, to allow me to check for fresh mole activity and perhaps pick up any moles that have been missed.

On my way to a night vision rabbit control job and as I was passing one of my mole jobs I thought I'd call in to have a look at traps, 4 traps emptied and re-set. A sprung trap can't catch so regular checking maximises efficiency.
