Hi All, having decided to completely down tools during this difficult time i thought i would write a quick post to keep customers informed at the measures i’m looking at taking to enable chimneys to be swept again. Some of the measures include:

- social distancing with customers - avoid being in the same room if possible

- all doors enroute to the chimney are open, to avoid touching door handles- this also includes the customer removing anything in the working area that might have to be moved to enable the sweep to complete the job.

- all windows in the room to be worked in are opened 10mins before arrival if possible

- my hands will be washed and sanitised , before, during and after the job is finished.

- All equipments and tools will be sprayed with disinfectant after each job,

- a high level of PPE will be used which include masks, gloves and overalls, which also will be disinfected and disposed of in a sealed bag after each job before being washed at the end of each day.

- sheets will also be disinfected and only used in one household before being disinfected, sealed away and washed.

These are just some of the measures that will be taken now we’ve been advised we can go back to work if social distancing measures can be adhered to. I look forward to hearing from you soon, if anybody has any further questions don’t hesitate to call me,

Stay Safe
Mark.

Yet another nest removed from a young family’s home in time for them to start using their fire now the cold snap has hit. Removed using traditional manual methods as power sweeping would have been too aggressive for the old chimney. Someone had previously fitted a bird guard without removing the nest which was a serious chimney fire risk. Limited appointments still left before Christmas

Advice on Do's and Don't's with Solid Fuel Installs...

✔Do bring the stove to operating temperature quickly and try to keep it there
⚠️Don’t close off the air to “slumber” the fuel for long periods or overnight
✔Do use dry wood – 20% moisture or less
⚠️Don’t use large logs – 4 to 6 inch / 100 to 150mm diameter is best
✔Do use manufacturer’s recommended fuels
⚠️Don’t burn damp wood or house coal on open fires in Smoke Control Areas
✔Do have your chimney swept regularly....A professional sweep can give lots of useful extra advice. Use a registered qualified sweep who is able to cover all aspects of sweeping both manual and power services!
⚠️Don’t buy a stove which is too big
(too powerful) for the room. You’ll get too hot and be likely to shut the air controls too much. The burning temperature will drop, fuel is wasted and pollution increased
✔Do use a thermometer, moisture meter, a stove fan, these can help improve efficiency, save money on fuel and reduce pollution
⚠️Don’t be tempted to fit or alter any part of a solid fuel system yourself – it’s far too easy to get something wrong and if anything goes wrong your insurance won't cover you!
✔Do fit a Carbon Monoxide alarm. This has nothing to do with how the fire burns, it’s just common sense! Be safe and stay safe!
⚠️Don’t burn plastic waste or treated waste wood. It stinks and it’s toxic
✔Do store and stack your logs so they are well ventilated

Finally, enjoy your installation/appliance just follow the guidelines and advice given to you, they are there to keep you safe!
