Not the most exciting content, but another turning point for our business.
Packaging! So much easier to hand an item directly to the customer but less and less possible due to the bespoke nature of our pieces.
We’ve kind of muddled through sending out our larger pieces by reusing the sturdy boxes our big mountboard and acrylic is delivered in.
Downside is that they often need to be almost rebuilt after being cut down to the right size. Plus they can look a bit naff, so wanted something better.
Got three big pieces to send out in the next few weeks so finally took the plunge with these expanding boxes.
Normal picture frame boxes aren’t deep enough for our deep box frames so we’re looking to use boxes designed for things like mirrors or flat screen tvs.
Not cheap since we can’t buy 100’s at a time. So trialling these ones at £15 a pop, and that’s a great price for them.
Means our base cost to send out a large piece for postage and packing with Parcel Force Express 24 is now over £30!
We’ve got to pass the bulk of this cost on, just can’t absorb it in the same way we can with the smaller pieces.
We’ve looked at cheaper couriers and box alternatives and it’s just not worth this risk of damage & limited insurance.
And we’re stubborn and don’t want to limit the prices we can make………..🤭
So if you see a larger piece at an event, it’ll be cheaper to buy on the day than online. This is why 😊
