⚠️ A quick warning to homeowners ⚠️
Recently, while quoting and working on a few properties, I’ve come across some jobs that really highlight the risks of choosing the wrong contractor.
One customer had paid over £1000 for work that, price-wise, was about right — but the quality simply didn’t match. The finish was poor, and it honestly looked like a rushed DIY job rather than professional work.
On another job, the customer was quoted £1000 for a clean, sand, and seal… which then suddenly dropped to £600. That’s a major red flag 🚩
Just to put things into perspective:
- A quality sealer alone can cost around £300–£350
- Sand, chemicals, and fuel all add up as well
So if someone is dramatically dropping their price, they’re almost certainly cutting corners — whether that’s using cheap materials, skipping steps, or not doing the job properly at all.
We were later asked to quote for the same job and carried it out properly for £1000 (clean, re-sand, and chemical treatment), after the customer had been recommended to us.
💡 The takeaway:
If a price seems too good to be true, it usually is. Always check reviews, ask what materials are being used, and don’t be afraid to question big price drops.
Quality work isn’t the cheapest — but it lasts.
Here are a couple of photos of work we’ve carried out. We made the customer aware beforehand that, due to the nature of the stone, achieving a perfect finish wouldn’t be possible. We always aim to be honest and upfront with all of our customers.
Stay safe and choose wisely 👍
