This week, we officially (but quietly) opened the doors to our chandlery at Mercia Marina.⚓️

We’re so happy to be back and can’t wait to welcome both familiar faces and new customers. You’ll find the same friendly, face-to-face service, with a fresh new look and location. Our core stock is back on the shelves, and we’re adding more every day!

Whether you’re in need of some loo blue 🟦, planning a big project, searching for that little something to carry out a repair, or just fancy popping in for a browse and a chat 👋 we’d love to see you.

We’ve been overwhelmed by all the kind messages and support since sharing the news about changes to our family business. Every purchase, like, and share really does mean the world to us and helps our independent chandlery grow 🌱—thank you. ❤️

So… a big thing is happening!
Some of you may have already seen the recent announcement from Mercia Marina. Following the news that Midland Chandlers are closing their branches and the engineers based onsite at Mercia would be leaving too, we were hugely flattered to be invited for talks about bringing our services to Mercia Marina.

It’s been a really fast process and we’ll keep you updated as soon as we are able to. The plan is to merge our family businesses into one company to become Johnson’s Chandlery and Marine Services Ltd where we will be able to provide you with chandlery, engineering and docking services from our new base at Mercia Marina.

We will be at Mills Dockyard for a few more weeks, whilst we prepare to relocate to Mercia and transition into our new business structure, as much as we have loved being at Mills, regrettably we just don’t have the resources to run both locations- so come April the chandlery at Mills will be closed. We want to extend a truly massive thank you to Steve and Moyra for welcoming us to the dockyard and to all of our customers who have supported us in our formative years. We really hope you will continue to choose us for your chandlery needs and join us for our next chapter of our story.

📣 📣📣 ANNOUNCEMENT 📣📣📣

As we come towards the end of what has been an unpredictable year for canals and rivers everywhere, the river levels around us are rising -as they do this time of year, and stoppages are set to come in locally, passing boat traffic is down. 🚤🛥️⛴️

**We have taken the decision to switch the chandlery from set opening hours to ‘open by chance or appointment’ during the winter season commencing from the end of this week. Please call ahead to avoid disappointment.**

You are still most welcome to send us your chandlery enquiries via the usual channels, text, WhatsApp or email as detailed below. Whether that’s to place an order, arrange a visit to shop or ask a question about our products and we’ll endeavour to make ourselves available at the earliest possible convenience.

I could tell a lie and say I have a dentist appointment or something…🦷 but the truth is, we have a little boy (and his grandad) who loves 😍 tractors 🚜, so we’re taking them to the plough match. 🤘🤘🤘

If you didn’t already know, Mill’s Dockyard (where our chandlery is based) is taking part in this year’s Heritage Open Days.
On Sunday 21st of September the yard will be open to the public, there will be refreshments, beautiful old cars and boats on display, great old photos and entertainment in the form of clog and Morris dancers (but don’t let that put you off! 🤣🤣)
Tomorrow (13th) Langley Mill boat yard will be open to visitors and Sandiacre Lock cottages will be open across both events with thanks to Erewash Canal Preservation and Development Association.

You know your a boater when you get excited about…….🤪 🤪
(We’d love to here/dread to think what you guys would fill this gap with!)

We’ve been waiting for todays delivery with all the excitement of a kid at Christmas for the long awaited flexi wire flue brushes! (aka hedgehog on a stick 🦔🦔🦔)

A staple item for any boat with a stove onboard, our usual suppliers discontinued this item some time back and we’ve been searching ever since to find an alternative. Today is the day they have finally arrived! 🎉🎉

We can feel the change in the air, it’s nearly time to light the fire, (I know some have already succumb to temptation!) 🔥but before you reach for the kindling, make sure your flue is swept! 🧹
(And check your CO alarms too!)

Just a few days left before we break up for a much needed, very overdue holiday! 😎

We are in the shop as usual for the rest of the week up until 1.30 Saturday. After Saturday we will be closed for a week. ⛱

Reunited at long last! 😍
The Oxford power couple is back! 💪💪💪

After a long stretch of ‘zero stock available’ the canopy cleaner is now back in store! 🧼🫧🧽🪣

So whip down that cratch and pram cover (which will do wonders for improving the air flow onboard in this warm weather! 🥵) and get your scrub on!

This foaming spray cleaner removes organic grime, including bird p**p 🐦 and leaves a mould resistant finish. (Can be used diluted for a lighter clean.) Cleans and sanitises in one operation.

Follow up with the re-proofer to waterproof and protect from UV which will help to prevent fading of the material. ☀️
