You don't expect a washroom service round to turn into a wildlife rescue. But that's exactly what happened to our team last week.

Our operative Stacy spotted a peregrine falcon in distress mid-service. Most people would've called someone. Stacy did too - but she called our driver Alfie, because she happened to know something most of us didn't: Alfie is a trained bird handler.

He was working nearby, came straight over, stayed with the falcon and made sure it was safe and unharmed before either of them carried on with their day.

We talk a lot about taking pride in the work. Turns out that instinct doesn't switch off when there's a falcon involved.

6 and a half years with CWS. Meet Tanya.

Tanya has been a Washroom Service Operative with Complete Washroom Solutions for six and a half years. Her days, she'll tell you, are busy and changeable - weather, traffic, the unpredictability that comes with being on the road. She takes it all as part of the job.

Her take on what makes someone great at this role is one of the most considered answers we got: patience, a sense of humour, and a good rapport with your customers. That's not just a description of a service operative - it's a description of someone who genuinely cares about the work they're doing.

Coffee on route. Always.

Her go-to snack? Fruits and nuts - though she admitted sweets sometimes make an appearance too.

And what does she like about being part of the team? "I like that we are doing something positive."

Happy World FM Day. Facilities management is often described as the work that holds everything else together. The buildings still function. The washrooms are clean. The systems keep running. Most people in the building never know anyone was involved, and that, in a lot of ways, is the point.

The teams who make that happen deserve more recognition than they typically receive.
