🐝 WASP SEASON IS NOW WELL UNDERWAY LOCALLY
This week alone I've attended a number of wasp nests in sheds and outbuildings, which is a good indication that the season is now starting to ramp up.
A word of caution if you're spending time in the garden this weekend...
Please take care when entering sheds, garages and outbuildings that you may not have been into for a week or two. Early-season wasp nests are often attached to shed roofs, door frames and roof timbers and can sometimes go unnoticed until they're disturbed.
One nest I attended this week had been built directly onto the top of a shed door. Had the door been opened quickly, the nest could easily have been damaged and the situation may have ended quite unpleasantly for the person opening it.
At this stage of the season many nests are still relatively small, however once the first worker wasps hatch, nests can increase in size and activity surprisingly quickly.
Common locations include:
• Sheds
• Garages
• Roof eaves
• Bird boxes
• Children's playhouses
• Outdoor storage areas
If you've noticed wasp activity around your property and aren't sure what you're dealing with, feel free to send over a photo or short video for identification and advice.
