I always put a cctv camera up every chimney after cleaning- there are two reasons for this........Firstly to check the chimney is completely clean and if necessary re sweep . Secondarily to check the condition of the chimney to ensure it is safe to use. My job isn't just to clean your chimney but to ensure that it is safe- a cctv inspection is included free of charge with every chimney sweep.

I swept a chimney on Tuesday that was fitted with a stainless steel flu liner two years ago- the log burner has had very little use and been used less than 20 times since installation. After sweeping I carried out an inspection with my camera and found the stainless flu liner was extremely badly damaged and unsafe. The liner has been heavily dented and mishapen causing several holes to open. This damage was almost certainly from the installation and in no way the fault of the customer. I supplied photos for the customer so they could go back to the company that installed it to rectify the faulty work .............unfortunately for my customer the company they used for the installation has now closed down!

This is a classic example of ensuring thar you have any installations carried out by a reputable and professional company, have your chimney swept regularly and have it checked with a camera.

The importance of burning good quality logs with a moisture content below 20% cannot be exaggerated enough. I would highly recommend burning only high quality logs that are correctly seasoned.
