Hi folks. I live on the coast and alot of the social media talks about the abundance of driftwood being washed up by storm Ciara and being used for firewood.

Apart from my 2 points below are any other things to be considered (if my two points with bad enough) 🤔

1) Burning driftwood releases polychlorinated dibenzodioxins (PCDDs) which are carcinogenic due to the chlorine content in the salt. Most of it would go up the chimney, but it is still bad for the environment.
2) The salt may react with metal wood stoves, fireplace inserts and liners, and SS flues.

At last this sort of stuff appearing in local and national media. Chimney fires are once again on the increase with the North West of England one of the worst areas and THE worst being Wigan with twice the number of Chimney fires as Manchester and Bury combined!!
Simple answer ? Get your Chimney swept regularly 👍.

Absolutely vital to have a Carbon monoxide alarm in the same room as your solid fuel appliance, whether you have a stove or open fire!

Waging war on Jackdaw nests today. All chicks have fledged so they're now fair game.
All chimneys cleared for the winter burning season!👍
Family of Jackdaws in last photo were a bit reluctant to leave so had to give them a boost so to speak....
