As well as our chimney lining systems course, chimney inspections course and practical service and maintenence, we've got our Chimneys in Thatched Properties course available for booking in 2025 (Please ignore the typo in the image - should say 'the' not 'there')

We've got dates in Feb March and April available, and it's our lowest price course we've done at £75 + VAT.

Rather than combine it with historic buildings or something else, we've kept it specific to chimneys and appliances in thatched properties. The expected duration is 9am start time 13:00 finish time. Location is MK8 0AD

As the colder months approach, many of us in Wirral, Chester, and Ellesmere Port turn to our trusty log burners and multi-fuel stoves to keep our homes warm and cozy. However, to get the most out of your stove, it’s essential to understand how to use the air controls effectively. Got some time on the leader board for the Rodstation vs Midtec speed sweeping challenge!

The rules are:

Use 10mm rodstation rods with their 125mm soft brush
You don't need to sheet up
Timer starts when you touch the baffle
Brush must be seen in the cowl
Timer stops when the baffle is correctly placed back into position.

I did set a time but it wasnt fastest so I decided not to share what it is 🙄

Along with all of our standard content on our service and maintenance course, candidates today wanted to focus some time on changing components on Stovax stoves such as the Stockton and View.

So we did some work on the cleanburn chamber, removing and replacing the air wash, changing the grate, replacement of seals on the collar and changing the rope seals and glass.

Another good day in Milton Keynes.

H003DS course this week.

The course culminated with an installation of a stove and liner using a Midtec PONTO cowl, 🐉Dragonflex🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 liner and top hat adaptor.

We were cutting closure plates, fitting closure plates, making connections to the stove, fitting a draught testing point on the connecting pipe and more.

A good but busy few days.

Given you're all in the solid fuel (mostly) trade, in looking for suggestions for improvement of training.

We've added certain things into our HETAS training that others don't. Things like practical tasks on service and maintenance training like drilling out screws, cutting new threads and changing glass and rope seals. Fitting a stove and liner on H003DS installer training. On chimney sweep training getting people on site practical experience rather than them just relying on classroom training. Adding chimney system design in various scenarios to our system chimney training. Only allowing people that actively carry out the trade they're teaching to train it etc.

We'd really like suggestions from people in the trade though to help us do our best to elevate training as much as we can. So is there anything if you were in our shoes that you'd like to add to training? What do you think should be done differently that you think we could implement or should?
