Honey bees, whether they are feral or in hives in managed colonies are recognised as beneficial insects and are rarely classed as pests.

However, they often come into conflict with people and their homes, causing alarm and distress by their behaviour.

They may sting people from time to time, but generally only when provoked.

Treating established colonies with pesticides today is becoming extremely difficult under current label guidelines, no pesticide label in the UK states that it can be used to treat established colonies. The only method of control therefore is physical removal using suitable techniques.

We are experts at Live Bee Removals! We locate and rehome unwanted bees. 🐝🐝🐝

There’s been a bit of noise in the news about hantavirus on a cruise ship, so worth putting a bit of calm, straight info out there.

First thing, this isn’t a UK issue. The cases being talked about are linked to a South American strain of hantavirus, there are different types , most likely picked up on land before the ship even set sail. That strain is carried by wild field rodents like the Long-tailed Pygmy Rice Rat, not the sort of rodents we deal with day to day here.

In the UK, the rodents we see around homes and businesses like the Brown Rat and House Mouse can carry a different hantavirus called Seoul virus. That’s been known about for years and is generally much milder, and importantly it is very rare.

The big difference is the virus itself and the species carrying it. The more serious strains overseas are tied to specific wild rodents that simply do not live in the UK. That is why this is not something spreading here.

Also worth saying, hantavirus does not spread easily from person to person. Most cases come from breathing in dust contaminated by rodent droppings in enclosed spaces, often in rural settings.

That said, it doesn’t mean rodents in the home are harmless. Far from it. Rats and mice are known to spread a range of diseases, contaminate food, and cause damage through gnawing and nesting. So while this particular story isn’t something to panic about, it is a good reminder that rodent activity should always be taken seriously.

For us in the UK it’s business as usual. Good hygiene, sensible clean up of any rodent activity, and keeping properties well maintained and proofed. The same advice we have always given.

If you have any concerns about rodents on your property, just drop us a message. That’s what we’re here for.

Honeybee removal we carried out today I Hempstead Kent, the honeybees are now in a hive of there own. We didnt rebuild the chimney after we removed the coney as the client was going to remove the chimney so we helped them by removing it after we had removed the bees and comb.
If you have got honeybees in your property give us a call and we can carry out the removal

At this time of year, the wasps you’re seeing are queens that have just come out of hibernation. Their job now is to find a suitable nesting site and start building a new colony from scratch.
Each queen will build a small paper nest, lay the first eggs, and raise the first batch of workers on her own. Once those workers emerge, they take over foraging and nest expansion while the queen focuses purely on laying eggs.
They’re also actually beneficial at this stage—while feeding on nectar, they help with pollination, and as the season progresses they control pest insects by hunting flies, caterpillars, and other garden pests.
So seeing them now is completely normal—it’s the very start of the wasp season.
