If you notice any of the below signs, please get in touch and we can provide a free survey.
Signs of Rats in your home or workplace:
Chewed items – Rats have incisors which never stop growing. They need to chew onto something hard on a regular basis – cables, woods, even pipes.
Droppings – can be found in many places, but under kitchen units, under floor boards and in the loft (check on top and under the insulation) are among the most common! They will be fairly large in comparison to mice droppings, usually about 1cm long.
Smears – rats have poor sight, that’s why they follow the same routes while moving. Constant moving on the same tracks will leave dark marks on surfaces – that’s called smears.
Noises – rats can climb up through the cavities of walls, so you might hear scratching noises behind the walls.
Footprints – you might see footprints on dusty places (basements, attics).
Although some of the signs of mice in your home or business are similar to rats, there are some differences. Have a look at what to look out for:
Droppings - small and dark (approx. 3 - 8 mm in length), scattered randomly, check inside or on cupboard tops or along skirting.
Grease marks - when their bodies brush against walls, floors and skirting on regular routes, you might see dark smears around holes or around corners.
Scratching noises - mice are most active at night. Listen for noises between partition walls, under floorboards, in false ceilings, basements and lofts.
Nests - mice use easy to shred materials, then line the nest with other soft materials. Check lofts, suspended ceilings, cavity walls, under floorboards and behind fridges, under stoves and in airing cupboards.
Tracks/footprints - you might see feet and tail tracks in dusty environments, such as lofts and basements or under kitchen cupboards.
Strong smell - mice urinate frequently and it has a strong ammonia-like smell.
