Fridge story.
π§ WHEN CREATIVITY MEETS NECESSITY π§
Had one of those calls last week that really got me thinking...
A client's fridge-freezer was acting up - dead bulb, fridge compartment completely gave up, but the freezer was still chugging along like a champ. Did my diagnostic tests and yep, faulty part. Easy fix, right?
Here's where it got interesting...
It was a bank holiday weekend. Parts delivery? 3-4 days minimum. Meanwhile, all her food and MEDICINE sitting in a warming fridge. Not happening on my watch! π€
So I told her: "Order the parts, I'll try something. If it works, we'll keep your fridge running until the new bits arrive."
What did I do?
Headed straight to the dump. π
I remembered seeing similar fridges there and thought - why not? Spent ages searching through the disposed fridges, found 3 potential candidates, tested the parts right there... BINGO! All working perfectly.
Rushed back to her place that same evening and spent the entire night installing and repairing. By morning - bulb glowing, fridge humming, client beaming! β¨
But here's what really hit me...
That "junk" fridge at the town dump? Still had perfectly good, reusable components. Makes you wonder about the whole recycle vs. reuse debate, doesn't it?
Sure, we're told recycling is great (and it is!), but what about REUSING what's already there? Why break something down to rebuild it when it can serve its purpose right now?
The flip side? I get it - this could easily slip into hoarding territory. "I'll keep this broken washing machine because I might need the motor someday..." π
It's all about balance, isn't it?
My takeaway: Sometimes the best solution isn't the newest part or the fanciest fix. Sometimes it's about looking at what's already available and thinking differently.
What do you think?
Are we too quick to recycle when we could reuse?
Or am I just justifying my habit of seeing potential in everything? π€
Anyway, Enough long yabaring
