New customer had stove fitted a couple of years ago. Unfortunately the installer fitted single skin flue to the stove. To meet regs single skin flue has to 3 x diameter away from combustable material. This flue is only 12” away from the beam, it should be 18”. Flue was removed and replaced with twin wall flue as this can go to within 50mm of combustibles. Now all safe and a fire hazard averted.

Something for customers to be aware of. The Stove needed to be replaced as it had failed. The Chimney was lined when the stove was installed, but was not registered with Hetas or the local authority and the landlord did not have any paperwork or documentation on the liner. Because of this, even though it was only a few years old, because of insurance purposes and a correct procedure that I need to be follow as a fully trained competent person in the solid fuel industry, with replacement of a wood burner to a current in situ liner. The liner had to be removed and discarded and a new liner installed. Once installed the new stove could be fitted, liner registered with Hetas and the local authority, a data plate fitted and correctly positioned carbon monoxide detector.

If you have a builder, Roofer, general handyman, your dad, your brother or even install it yourself. If it is not registered with Hetas or local authority, you will find your household insurance will be void.

Customer was having problems with insects, bugs and bees last year. As a precaution this year I have fitted C cap to the chimney pots to stop any bugs or insects entering the Flue. These are also good for capping off any disused Flues to stop bird nesting. This type also helps combat damp in the Flue if a old style bonnet cap or vent caps are not fitted correctly

Had a customer ring up informed me that the Wood burner was smoking back into the room. A visit out there to find the cowl completely blocked with soot. After Sweeping the Flue liner with a brush, a wire loop was gently fed up the liner to the cowl where a quick spin with the rotary did a perfect job of clearing the blockage.

🚨 Don’t Believe the Scaremongering Headlines — Woodburning Stoves Are Not Being BANNED 🚨

There’s a growing wave of panic online saying that woodburning stoves are being outlawed — but the facts say otherwise.

✅ The UK government recently confirmed under the upcoming Future Homes Standard (FHS) that wood-burning stoves will still be permitted as a secondary heating source in new homes.
✅ According to the independent consumer body Which?, as of 2025 “there are no plans to ban wood burners” outright — though regulations and fuel requirements are tighter.
✅ Yes — there are new rules to improve air quality (e.g. only Ecodesign-certified stoves can be sold, certain fuels are restricted in smoke control areas) — but that’s about responsible use, not a blanket ban.

➡️ In short: the headlines claiming “WOODBURNING STOVES BANNED” are misleading. What’s really happening is a push for cleaner, safer wood-burning practices, not a ban.

If you already own a stove — or are thinking of installing one — there’s no evidence they’re being outlawed. They remain legal when used correctly.
