Over the past year confidence in headlight restoration has improved more and more, still don’t offer wet sanding them as a package due to them not been 100% satisfactory, during the process there is always one grade that I can’t seem to sand down or cut properly.

The E60, which is my own mild resto project, had pretty poor headlights and felt this to be the perfect “trouble shoot and diagnose” car.

It turns out that the jump in the sandpaper kit used from 1250 > 1500 > 2500 is too much. There needs to be a grit in between 1500 and 2500. 1500 I’d argue is an abrasive whether 2500 is more of a refine grade.

Thankfully the E60’s headlight material worked with the rotary stage and the scratches were removed indefinitely. Have ordered another kit, that includes 1750,2000,2250 to see if the issue found will resolve itself

The car presents far far fresher now even with the one headlight done. Fog lights need the same treatment.

Will report back once the other headlight has been sanded to see if we are confident enough to put it on the options list of work we can carry out on your car.

It is a 2-4 hour job per headlight, don’t use a DA machine it is traditional block and paper. We also have to work out if it’s financially viable for us to offer it as a service.

This time the headlight has been ceramic coated. However we would always recommend lacquering them to seal in the work and prevent them from yellowing again in the future.

BMW Z3

It’s great to work on an older car. They need more work in more areas, so much more frame detailing needed (bumper to panel gaps that have faded or dulled) making the end result so so much more refreshing.

A fantastic example made even better with a single stage medium paint correction.

Safe wash ✅
Chemical decontamination ✅
Tar / glue remover & claybar ✅

Places such as the chrome grilles, fog lights, chrome boot lock had all dulled, rubbers were white from previous waxing stages, bonnet vent edges were probably the sections most in need of work. All areas were restored. Small details make the bigger difference, incredibly proud to know that that’s the feedback I get from clients is that the end result is always what they were hoping.

This car didn’t put up a fight whatsoever, almost as if it wanted the restoration. It isn’t 100% defect free however the paintwork is crisp, fresh, smooth just like it deserves to be.

Also, red is the best colour 😉

Thanks for the opportunity to bring back a modern classic.

Even on single state corrections the results speak for themselves

In fact, single stage paint corrections can remove more defects than you’d think … yet the car stays useable so you don’t end up being scared to use it.

This Defender had a hard life of £5 car washes, medium cut single stage got the car as presentable as it deserved to be

Photos like this will never get boring 😎

Couple of little jobs completed recently

Single stage paint correction on an Aygo along with sanding and polishing foggy headlights

Door card fabric re adhesion on a K12 Micra followed by a quick wash and hoover. Previous repair on door fabric meant stains wouldn’t come out, however it is much better to look at than a piece of material hanging.

Ready for more quote and ghost / non payers 😎😎

BMW X5 M50d

Final car with MWP as their new valeter and now paint correction specialist has taken over after us training him on ceramic coatings

He cares about the final result as much as I do. It was fantastic working with him and a great feeling someone was helping with this giant!

Special attention to all the gloss black trims, edges, arches.

Single stage / medium cut followed with a refine stage. Still imperfections there, however now presented far better than it was and the owner doesn’t need to be scared of using it.

My story with MWP will stay close to my heart as it was a dream job. Countless VXR8s, absolutely fantastic people there and thanks to them our portfolio of cars is lavished in expensive, proper, special cars.

They had me in between valeters but I feel Carl will stay there there he is great at what he does.

Left on good terms and as friends to them all.

And left knowing this X5 was completed above expectations as a salute to business gone by and Carl being very proud of himself executing his first solo ceramic coating successfully.

What a year

Factory refreshed a battered Transit van

Restored the red VXR8 GTS from llanberis after it was sold to MWP

Hearing of a client passing away from cancer only a couple of weeks after getting his Aston Martin Rapide sale ready. A gentleman. Honored to have been the man to sort the cars out given how tedious he was when life was kinder to him.

returned to MWP during the summer to restore some incredible cars, including the GT3 RS

a special mention to Nick, who put trust in me with a huge job of restoring his American RV. A monsterous task that ideally needed full time hours to complete in time. Plenty of challenges on its own but we got there (almost)

Watching his reactions to the before and after as they progressed, recording, staring, coming in to look at the finished sections restored passion for the job. The RV got us from being online friends to in person friends, return business, getting to know his team. Really meant a lot for you to have put that much trust in me with the cars especially the Range Rover.

to RD for returned quick wins. got to work on a C63 fantastic cars thanks for the work during the year

To James for throwing a load of vans our way

JG for been open to learning the trade and making waves on the jobs he helped out on ! 💪🏻

For everyone who works in this trade for being friends rather than competitors.

Hopefully some big changes happening in 2026. Thanks for so much continued support 🤗🤗

Happy new year everyone !

Suzuki Celerio

Or celery, or belelelerio as I’ve not seen one before and won’t remember what it’s called 😂

14,000 mile example needing a sympathetic interior reset to get it back to where it should be.

Thin carpets and soft plastics actually worked with the equipment very well with this one. steam, APC, fabric cleaner, brushes and cloths. Only real bother was getting the little bits and bobs out of the floor mats. They were too good to throw out. Happy with the result!

Seats are back in, quick return to it tomorrow to see what they’re like once they’re dry. Confident enough that they’ll be absolutely fine, on the rare occasion there’ll be a mark or stain you won’t see on a wet seat and we don’t like to sign things off until everything’s of standard.

Clean controls and switch gear, fresh smelling and ready to go 😊😎 thank you for choosing JBR Details

Volkswagen Amarok

The worst car to prep I think we’ve ever had in

Decorators car from new, it was covered head to toe in overspray, paint blobs, more overspray and horrendous swirling. The dealership tried to do something on the front but they did more damage than good.

As per tradition, a car this bad from a second hand dealer is typically sprayed in a copious amount of silicone spray and this was no exception. Once it had worn off the actual condition of the paint showed through.

The owner works with me on recovery, I couldn’t believe the condition. He won a claim towards the repair, cause that’s what it was going to have to be, so after some failed attempts with getting it booked in it finally happened.

Aggressive wash, aggressive decontamination process. Claybar was coming off red, purple, white, chunky.

It was a working vehicle and served a purpose. It isn’t the owners fault and not necessarily the dealership however covering up paintwork this bad is not a good idea as it will come back to bite you. Had they disclosed it it could have been dealt with sooner. Not much honesty about these days.

After the decontamination process was complete, we discussed how far the corrections were going to go. We are incredibly OCD here, we have to come back down to earth sometimes and understand not all finishes need to be perfect. This truck has and will be used off road in rough conditions, but it also deserves to not look out of place outside a fancy restaurant if the occasion happens.

A steady two pass single stage was conducted around the entire car, with the bonnet receiving a rotary hard cut before a refine.

Chrome was polished correctly, thoroughly, the chrome sill guards were wire wool’d (0000 fine grade) to remove the overspray and staining off of them successfully,

All in all about 2 solid days work to get this Amarok looking like it should. Only this time it’s an honest finish.

It was a great one personally as the owner has helped on numerous occasions on shift so it was nice to be able to show him what I am good at and return the favour of all those times he’s showed up for me.
