I don't know what it is like where you are, but I am in Wellingborough, and just swept a chimney, come out and it is raining, hurrah.
Lots of puddles, so hopefully the wildlife can have a drink at last, instead of risking life and limb to travel miles to find it.

It is not very often that I use my largest sweeping sheet, and the smallest sweeping sheet in the same house.
But I did yesterday.
The largest is used for inglenook fireplaces, the smallest wraps around stove pipes with a sweeping access, and both are just as important as each other to stop soot entering the room, and keeping it where I want it. The smallest gets used quite frequently, the largest (about 40 times larger than the smallest) ,doesn’t get used much, but it is in the van for when it is needed. To be honest I carry a lot of kit that doesn't get used as much as other tools, but they are used occasionally, and you couldn't do the job as well without them. On another note, as predicted, it is very busy at the moment with bookings, a few spaces left for August and September, also a few spaces remaining. Thanks very much. Steve.

Good morning everyone.
Just a reminder, during the Summer months don't forget to leave your air vents on your stove open a little.
The warm Summer air entering a cooler house, could lead to condensation forming in the flue and inside of the stove. Resulting in potential damage to the bricks and could lead to rust and corrosion. By creating a continuous movement of air down the chimney ,should stop this from happening.

These are bricks from a stove that I swept this time last year, and the bricks were in good condition, apart from they were in 2 pieces.
Nothing up with that, they are not crumbling, and are still the same thickness.
So I used some of my stove brick super glue to stick them together, and re fitted in the stove .
Fast forward a year and I am sweeping the same stove this morning, the bricks are still stuck together, how is that for a good product, at the princely sum of absolutely nothing to the customer.
This stove gets well used, and the bricks were as good as when I stuck them together a year ago.

Good morning everyone.
I am sure most of you are aware that it is nearly the start of the School holidays. That is why there is a photo of the classic Alice Cooper album, Schools Out (well it worked last year, so why not).
It was my favourite day of the year, when I was younger, apart from Christmas.
As you know if you follow my page, it is the time that I remind you to book in for your Autumn and Winter chimney sweep,mainly because by the time the kids go back to school in September, I will be pretty much booked up until Christmas, if the last few years are anything to go by.
So you can message me via this page, or watsap or whatever way you want.
I got told last year, and rightly so, that I didn't give enough reminders, so this is the first.
I do try to keep this page pretty light hearted, and not constantly banging on about getting your chimney swept, but this is one of the few exceptions.
So if you are going away on holiday, have a lovely time, if you are staying at home, I hope you get all your work done and have a bit of time for yourself.

The most popular item found behind stoves, for those of you who don't know (and I class myself in that category) it is a foam dart for a Nerf gun, a toy gun, used for indoor and outdoor play, later type apparently.
Other popular things I find are cats toys,because they are small, those little lego or similar small play items, broken or unused fireplace accessories, odd bits of kindling or smokeless coal pieces.
But, the foam dart wins hands down.
If your children have one or have had one there will be one somewhere in your fireplace.

This is a tell tale sign that your liner is perished.
This was on top of the baffle when I removed it.
A quick camera inspection confirmed my suspicions.
Good thing to find out this time of year though, so it can be replaced before the Autumn.
