Honesty and integrity are at the heart of everything we do. ❤️

This week we’ve had a couple of bookings that didn’t work out, not because we couldn’t clean the furnishings but because it wouldn’t have solved the issue for our customer.

The first was a leather sofa for a good customer which upon inspection was suffering some damage from cat scratches, we could have cleaned it but to be honest it was in otherwise fab condition and we knew that with a restoration from a leather specialist we know, it could look brand new, so we referred them.

The second was a wool rug which again was looking great apart from a shaded mark, upon inspection this was identified as pile reversal, which is a peculiarity of wool, again a clean wouldn’t have solved the issue for the customer.

Many companies could just show up, clean the items to the best of their ability and take the money. We on the other hand would rather be down in takings for the day and not leave you with an end product that’s going to spoil the effort you’re making to make your home look great.

Choose wisely when you book a company, not many might be so honest with you 👀

I clean this carpet at least twice a year and the results are always great. This is solely due to regular maintenance cleaning. It’s a grey synthetic, which are renowned for wearing quickly, abrasions in the fibre make them appear dull with a brownish tint. Regular professional cleaning removes the soiling which would otherwise become ingrained in the fibre. Our equipment leaves it deep clean and dry within hours for less than the price of hiring a machine, buying detergent and spending a day doing it yourself, not to mention waiting two days for it to dry!

We’re proud to say that Alexander’s Cleaning has once again renewed our WoolSafe Service Provider certification.

For us, WoolSafe has never just been a logo or a product label — it’s a commitment to understanding how wool carpets should actually be cleaned and cared for properly.

Wool is a natural fibre and a significant investment in many homes. Sadly, the carpet cleaning industry remains completely unregulated, and over the years we’ve seen a worrying amount of misinformation and unintentional damage caused by cleaners who simply haven’t been trained to understand wool correctly.

Using a “WoolSafe-approved product” doesn’t automatically mean someone understands wool carpets.

One thing that we’ve heard many rimes from other cleaners is: “I’ve cleaned that way for 20 years and never had a problem.”

Some DIY spot cleaning left the arm of this expensive cotton sofa with staining from cellulosic browning and potentially ruined.

Happily we were able to reverse the problem in this instance.

It’s easy to be caught out by natural fibres which is why professional cleaning is always recommended.
