A striking 6-bay oak glulam portal frame with ridge detailing, featuring integrated powder-coated mild steel connections, including post/principal flitch plates, apex flitches, and galvanised powder-coated mild steel post foot brackets - all combining to create a sleek, contemporary multi-use frame.

This project perfectly balances the warmth and character of glulam oak with bold, precision-engineered steelwork, giving it a clean modern finish while showcasing exceptional craftsmanship throughout. It’s a frame we’re incredibly proud of.

One of our talented frame designers at Carpenter Oak, Connor, is taking on the London Marathon on April 26th 🏃‍♂️🇬🇧

He’s running in support of the National Trust, a charity dedicated to protecting the UK’s natural beauty, from wildlife habitats to historic stately homes and coastlines. Their work helps restore landscapes, care for nature, and preserve places for future generations to enjoy.

From planting new habitats to safeguarding historic estates, the National Trust looks after hundreds of special places across the UK and works to ensure wildlife can thrive in the face of climate and environmental challenges.

African Forest Opens at Bristol Zoo Project

The new African Forest habitat has officially opened at Bristol Zoo Project, creating an immersive rainforest environment for critically endangered western lowland gorillas and other threatened species.

Carpenter Oak was proud to contribute to this exciting project by designing and crafting the large timber gorilla gym structures inside the gorilla house. These robust climbing frames allow the gorillas to move, climb and interact in ways that reflect their natural behaviour.

The project required a combination of specialist timber design, structural engineering and traditional craftsmanship, ensuring the structures are both safe and durable while blending naturally with the habitat.

It’s a great example of how timber construction can support innovative environments focused on wellbeing and conservation.
