We’ve recently attended another hot tub with a power supply issue, and it’s something every hot tub owner should be aware of.

In our professional opinion, a hot tub should not be run from a standard 13-amp plug and socket. The power demand of a hot tub is simply too high, especially during colder months when heaters and pumps are working harder to maintain temperature.

A year ago today, our son Max underwent major brain surgery for medically resistant epilepsy.

But the journey to that operating theatre started long before that.

A year before his surgery, our world shattered in a matter of moments. Max suffered a seizure and passed in his father’s arms. In that moment, nothing prepares you for the terror, the panic, the feeling that your entire world has stopped. Somehow, through pure instinct, love and sheer desperation, I brought my boy back.

But life never returned to normal after that day.

From then on, seizures became part of our lives every 1–3 weeks. Endless hospital visits. Ambulances. Fear. Trauma. Watching your child suffer while feeling completely powerless inside. Living constantly on edge, terrified every time they close their eyes, terrified of what the next phone call or next seizure could bring.

People see epilepsy and often think it’s “just a seizure.”
They do not see the emotional destruction behind it.
The sleepless nights.
The PTSD.
The stress on the family.
The fear of losing your child every single day.

Eventually, after everything Max endured, brain surgery became the option. Imagine hearing those words as a parent. Brain surgery. On your child.

Today marks one year since that surgery. One year since we placed our trust in surgeons and hoped for a future that once felt impossible to imagine.

And through every single moment of this journey, Max has shown unbelievable strength. More strength than most adults could ever comprehend.

This post is not for sympathy. It’s for awareness. For every family silently fighting battles behind closed doors. For every parent holding themselves together while their child fights for their life. We never wanted it to be a “fuss” so never chaired the social media angle - we do know that there are people out there who have supported but I wouldn’t be able to continue without my wife Sophie - she’s been a rock 🪨.

We are proud beyond words of our boy.
