A small wasp nest treated in Bridgnorth 🐝

The wasps were already quite agitated before filming, so a knock-down spray had been used beforehand to calm things down safely before applying the ice spray shown in the video to destroy the nest.

Even small nests can become aggressive surprisingly quickly once disturbed.

Wasp season is definitely starting to get going now with the warmer weather.

Covering Bridgnorth and surrounding areas as always.

Getting things ready for wasp season 🐝☀️

Wasp suits and gloves aired out and ready to go again. Doesn’t seem two minutes since the end of last season.

This warmer weather soon gets them busy, so it won’t be long before the first proper nest calls start coming in.

Renewed my yearly NPTA certificate again this week.
Pest control is a much more complex industry than many people realise. It’s not just about dealing with pests — it involves ongoing training, exams, and keeping up with constantly changing legislation. No matter how long you’ve been in the trade, there’s always something new to learn, and staying up to date is a vital part of doing the job properly and responsibly.

Carpet Moth Treatment in Bridgnorth 🐛

Attended a property in Bridgnorth yesterday with damage to carpets caused by carpet moth larvae.

The issue had gone unnoticed for a while, which allowed the larvae to cause visible damage to the fibres.

Treatment carried out to target the infestation and advice given to help prevent further problems.

⚠️ Carpet moths are often only noticed once damage appears, so early signs can be easy to miss.

If you’re seeing unexplained carpet damage or suspect carpet moths, it’s best to get it checked early.

This is the size of a wasp nest (slightly larger than a golf ball, photo taken on 2nd May) so far this nest only has the queen inside looking after her brood of 12 grubs. She goes out frequently alone and finds insects and other larvae to feed to them.

Once these 12 hatch out into worker wasps they will take over the building of more cells and will tend to the next brood of grubs and the feeding of the Queen who will concentrate her energy into egg laying.

The nest will grow very quickly after this (like a snowball gathering snow as it rolls downhill) as more and more grubs hatch into worker wasps.

It's not easy to spot a working nest until the number of wasps reach an amount that you can see being very busy flying in and out of a certain spot (from June onwards) ... this is when you may need to decide to have the nest treated.

If you are seeing what you think may be wasps at this time of year (May) They are probably bees. And we don't do bees.

So don't panic just yet.. it's too early for wasps!
