Loving our weekend with the BSSF (British Sleddog Sports Federation). Beautiful dogs, fast action and the most perfect atmosphere amongst competitors young and older! I don't think we have ever witnessed so many dogs in one place. Paulo and the forestry team have been giving all their support to make the tracks passable after all Thursdays storms.

This place will never be the same without our Bimbo. Official meeter and greeter at the castle, top footballer and most cheerful soul you could ever wish to be by your side. RIP. A hole in our hearts that will be hard to fill.

❤🍾WE GOT A 10/10 FROM OUR BRILLIANT JANUARY GUEST - CRAIG REVELL HORWOOD🍾❤
IT was a perfect start to the New Year but made even better with words like this from the world's top judge FAB-U-LOUS!
Darling… if castles could score a 10, this one would be holding it unapologetically aloft with jazz hands.
And
From the moment my family and I swept into the Macduff Suite, I knew we weren’t merely staying somewhere, we were inhabiting history. Stunning stone walls, soaring proportions, and that delicious hush that only centuries of living in can provide. You don’t walk into this place… you make an entrance. The space, oh my word, generous, indulgent, and gloriously unbothered by modern minimalism. This is not a sterile hotel room with a sad cushion and a kettle tucked into a cupboard. This is a proper castle wing, where every room says, “Sit. Stay. Pour another dram.” The bedroom? Darling, that four-poster could host a coronation. I slept like a Tudor monarch with excellent central heating. Deep, restorative, “don’t speak to me before coffee” sleep. Sublime. And the grounds…Deer casually wandering past as if they own the place (to be fair, they probably do). Morning walks that clear the head, soothe the soul, and make you question why on earth you ever rush anywhere. It’s calm. It’s cinematic. Let’s be clear, this is not flashy, blingy nonsense.
This is quite luxury, the kind that doesn’t need to shout because it knows exactly what it is. Comfortable, warm, well-equipped, and utterly idyllic, despite being, you know, a CASTLE. Thank you immensely to the gorgeous Duke and Duchess of Fife for their kind and welcoming hospitality and for the insight into their magnificent storied past. Verdict, darlings: Atmosphere, comfort, sense of occasion, ability to make you feel like you should be wearing velvet all…10! Overall…FAB-U-LOUS! Would I return? Darling… I’m mentally rearranging my diary already. 💋🏰

Those of you who have stayed in the Macduff will know that we have a Bull Room. All our rooms are named after the portraits and these two beauties are in pride of place. The pair are known all over the world in farming circles. The Aberdeen Angus was famed and the herd here a prized one . The offspring were sent to the States and Australia and we meet all kinds of people who are familiar with Druid and Cupbearer.
The ancestors here were clearly proud of them!

The walls here surround about 800 acres of parkland, some of which is now arable. Before the 2nd world war it was all park and had several native herds of deer, sheep and cattle.
Now these great sandstone buildings are home to horses but there was a prize herd of Highland cows in addition to the Jersey milkers amongst them. when we cleared out we found rosettes from the Perth show in 1910.
And you can still see the great dairy building in the middle of the yard.

A beautiful wild walk. Just love the coast round here.

🌊 Wednesday Wander: Follow the road to Scurdie Ness Lighthouse and enjoy one of Angus’s most scenic coastal walks. This headland sits on the south side of the River South Esk, where the river flows from the North Sea into Montrose Harbour and Montrose Basin.

The name comes from local geology – Scurdie refers to the volcanic rock found here, and Ness means headland. Along the way, keep your eyes peeled for wildlife - seals and dolphins are often spotted here🐬
