Did you know; in the late 1600’s, in response to the Great Fire of London - which gutted the city; building regs changed, requiring chimneys to be much narrower. As a result, keeping chimneys free from obstruction became far more challenging. Shockingly, instead of someone inventing a tool to resolve the new found issue - small children were employed as human chimney sweeps. Some as young as 4 were sent up chimneys with scraping devices to knock out creosote and soot. Surprising this practice continued for some 200 years, despite the huge health ramifications.
With ‘silly season’ looming; book now, for a safe, trained, adult sweep! (Note: No children were harmed in the making of this post - but we may turn to shoving them up the odd chimney, should we get too busy….!!)
