The government has confirmed today that it is NOT considering a ban on domestic burning in England.

This is reassuring news for households that rely on solid fuel burning either as their primary heat source or as a valuable, low carbon, energy grid independent and cost effective secondary heating source.

The announcement comes as the Environmental Improvement Plan 2023 was published in which the government also confirms that it will be tightening limits that new stoves in Smoke Control Areas must meet, and that it is considering extending solid fuel legislation to outdoor burning as well.

The Stove Industry Association (SIA) welcomes these announcements.

Government will also introduce measures that will shift consumers away from more polluting appliances such as open fires and many older stoves, in favour of modern stove appliances.

The simplest way to identify the cleanest and most efficient stove model it to choose a ClearSkies Level 4 or 5 certified appliance.

Leading chimney sweeps warn of a spike in chimney fires this February and March❗

Guild of Master Chimney Sweeps chairman Lawson Wight said: ‘The combination of lockdown and cold weather means people are at home using their fires for many more hours per week. Unfortunately for some, this will result in a potentially dangerous chimney fire.’

Lawson added, ‘Think, if you’ve used a lot more fuel than usual this winter, then you’ve obviously used the fire more. Consider having the chimney swept and your fire checked out for a second time.’
If you suspect a chimney fire then get everyone to a safe place and call the fire service. Always have the chimney inspected if there has been a fire.

The way you use your fire and fuel can make a big difference to deposits in your chimney and your local professional sweep will be happy to advise.

A wood burning stove is not the same as a diesel car & comparing the emissions from the two is like comparing sprouts with sausages!
Our latest video explains why this comparison is hugely misleading & how wood burning stoves in fact offer a very low carbon, sustainable & renewable heating solution for your home that you can be PROUD of.

In these strange and worrying times many are wondering what can and can't be done. Chimney sweeping can be done and still observe social distancing and safety measures. Professional sweeps usually follow very safe guidelines anyway but especially so now.
If you would like your chimney swept then please contact me. As long as you are well and I am too then I can protect your life and home from damage caused by a chimney fire.
Because of being at home many have been using the fire more often, so the chimney is going to need sweeping. I issue insurance recognized certificates for each chimney swept.
If you're unsure about procedure or want to talk over what I do then please contact me via facebook or 07980 403630.
Hope everyone is safe and well. See you soon.
