I enjoyed a refreshing swim/snorkel at Churchill Barrier 2 today. I avoided the wrecks for a change and lost myself in the most enchanting Seaweed forest 🪸

The incredibly kind people of have asked me to exhibit some of my underwater photography work in their beautiful Kirkwall shop over summer. It's so lovely to be able to share with you images of the stunning underwater world around the Orkney Islands. I hope that some of you manage to get to the exhibition and enjoy my different view of Orkney. 💙🌊

There's been reports of a few Barrel jellyfish, Rhizostoma pulmo, around the seas of Orkney recently. Yesterday was the first time I'd ever seen one, sadly recently deceased, lying on the seabed off Hoy. They are far, far more common in the south of England, so it's unusual to hear of so many being spotted up here. This one was around 50cm long, but they can grow as large as 90cm across! Would love to see one swimming in the water.

Good to have clear water again, and see life returning to the sea surrounding Orkney. Heres some Plumose anemones from last week feeding on a piece of wreckage at the Churchill Barriers.
