Feeling a bit philosophical - I was on my way to rescue yet another trapped bird this morning about 4.30am (as you do) when I witnessed a fella in love with his job-a local 12 wheeler Swallow's crane bouncing thru the gears on Bathwick hill as the 50+ years young driver wore a massive grin a grown up kid who dreamed of being a crane driver as a wee fella We shared a thumbs up moment as we each recognised the other fella just loving what they do for a living hurrah! Now here I am in Milton Keynes having a quick brekky before meeting up with a bunch of fellow sweeps keen on advancing their knowledge - life is good

Going the extra mile in style this Sunday.
After reviewing the HD footage from Saturday’s survey on a Jacobean Manors chimney played back on the big living‑room telly. I spotted something a bit odd lurking in the shadows. The detail wasn’t 100% clear… so a quick early‑morning jaunt in my preferred weekend transport - my 1952 Coventry steed, sweep mascot proudly leading the way HD camera in the boot — soon made things clear.
Turns out the builders had dislodged a stone while fitting a walk‑in shower, followed by a hasty, less than pretty repair - oh dear. But knowing where the problem is, and the best path to fixing it, is half the battle.

Always appreciate customers taking the time to leave a review. Last‑minute bookings can be stressful when a sale is stuck, so it’s good to be able to step in, get the sweep done cleanly, and issue the right certificate to keep things moving. Beautiful Roman Baths - The Often overlooked Baroque laundry chimney built in 1885 the laundry was fed by the hot springs - with the archway over york street hiding the pipes - one of my all time favourite chimneys of Bath

Hot weather? Smells like an old campfire in your lounge? - Those upstairs windows you've opened are turning your stairwell into a new chimney As hot air escapes upstairs, your stairwell becomes the new chimney, pulling air down your old chimney and bringing the smell of soot, creosote and yesterday's fires back into your home.

Here's what to do:

Close the internal door to the stairs.
Partially cover the fireplace opening (around half).
❌ Don't block it completely—it often makes the smell worse!
If it's been a while since your last sweep, get the chimney cleaned.

A simple change in airflow is often all it takes.
