It’s one of the best parts of the job all the teas, coffees, biscuits and cakes are appreciated, but there’s something special about visiting one of our regular customer each year and being greeted with freshly baked sourdough bread. 🍞👨‍🍳

After a busy few weeks, we recently took on a job for the brilliant Mendip Fireplaces, working alongside Emery Building Contractors.

We carried out a pre-sweep along with camera inspections on some very old fireplaces, helping ensure everything was safe, clear, and ready for the next stage of work.

Saint Florian Day (May 4th)

Today we celebrate Saint Florian, the patron saint of firefighters and chimney sweeps.

Saint Florian was a Roman officer known for his bravery and dedication to protecting others from fire. Legend says he once saved a burning village using just a single bucket of water a powerful symbol of courage and service.

Today, we honour everyone who helps keep people safe from fire.

Happy Saint Florian Day.

Spring is in full swing, and with the sunshine has come a very busy week working in and around Bath. It’s always nice returning to Bath as, believe it or not, it’s my hometown
although my accent might suggest otherwise! It’s been a pleasure working with both new and returning customers. Here are just a few snapshots from the week’s sweeps . Thank you, as always, for your continued support

Sad day today after 5 years of loyal service, an original team member has retired.

My trusty Milwaukee drill was given to me by a very close friend when I first started out as a sweep, and it has helped keep more chimneys safe than I could count.

Yesterday it turned for the final time, and called it a day

Although I’ve found it peaceful driving around in a blank van, I’ve got to admit I’m liking the new look.

Now for the 100s of beep-beeps… and finding my window wipers up in the air 🤣🤣

Can’t fault freestyle design in Bath.

Always a pleasure visiting Bailbrook House Hotel, especially on an early start.

We recently carried out a chimney sweep and a camera inspection on two of their tall chimneys, helping keep everything safe and running smoothly in this beautiful historic property. Bailbrook House Hotel

lot of customers ask us the difference between a standard chimney sweep and a sweep & service and it’s a great question, because it’s easy to be misled or mis-sold if it’s not explained properly.

Here’s a clear breakdown so you know exactly what you’re paying for:

🔥 Standard Chimney Sweep

a proper sweep should always include more than just running brushes through the flue. A thorough job involves:

Removing fire bricks and clearing out all ash and hidden debris

Inspecting the type of flue with mirror and torch.

Carrying out a full rotary sweep to remove soot and debris or manual sweep in cases.

Cleaning and polishing the stove glass

Polishing the hearth

Checking fire bricks and refitting or repairing any that are damaged

Performing a smoke evacuation test to ensure the stove is working safely and efficiently

Once all is completed we would then issue a NACS sweeping certificate for your records and peace of mind.

👉 In our view, this is what a true “standard sweep” should look like.

🛠️ Sweep & Service

a sweep & service goes a step further and includes everything above, plus:

Replacing worn rope seals around the stove door and internal components

A full camera inspection of the flue to assess the condition of the liner from top to bottom

💡 The key difference: A service involves maintenance and deeper inspection—not just cleaning.

The before and after shown here is from a standard sweep, giving you an idea of the level of care and attention that should always be expected.

If you’re ever unsure what’s included, don’t hesitate to ask any reputable sweep will be happy to explain exactly what you’re getting.

Pricing a general sweep £70-£80

A sweep and service from £120. (For most stoves some stoves can be more.)

A couple of weeks ago we paid a visit to The Queens pub, tucked away in Chew Magna, to sweep their Villager stove.

If you’re in the area, it’s well worth stopping by whether that’s for a drink or some great food
