Have you ever wondered what a bumblebee nest or eggs look like? Well we needed to remove these bumblebees as everytime the the home owner walked on the decking, they came out and stung his ankles making him not want to go in his own garden!

We put these girls in a correx nuc box so they can be transported away and rehomed.

If you need bumblebee rehomed there is a cost involved for removing them. The correc box plus 2-3hrs of our time needs to be covered. You can just leave them as they will be gone by October but if you find they are causing you to not feel safe in your own garden, then get in touch

There is SO much conversation about wasps, yellow jackets, hornetsโ€ฆ and now the โ€œAsian hornets.โ€

Honestlyโ€ฆ it can get confusing VERY quickly.
I see people online calling almost every flying insect a bee, wasp, hornet or โ€œmurder hornet.โ€ So letโ€™s break this down in simple terms.

Firstโ€ฆ โ€œwaspโ€ is actually a very large group of insects.
Think of it like dogs:
dogs are one big group
but under that group you have
-Labs,
-Poodles
-huskies,
-shepherds,
-bulldogs etc.

Same thing with wasps.
Under the wasp category you have:
-yellow jackets
-hornets
-paper wasps
-dirt nest wasps
-giant cicada hunting wasps
tiny pest-control wasps
and MANY more

So technically:
-hornets are wasps
-yellow jackets are wasps
-paper wasps are wasps
โ€ฆbut not all wasps are hornets or yellow jackets.

Honey bees are NOT wasps.
One of the biggest differences between bees and wasps is how they are built.
Honey bees:
-fuzzy looking
-built for pollination
-hairs help trap pollen
-focused on nectar and pollen collection

Wasps:
-smooth shiny bodies
-built more for hunting and scavenging
-many species are predators of other insects

Now letโ€™s break down some of the common ones people see:

Honey Bees
-pollinators
-produce honey and wax
-usually gentle unless defending the hive
-die after stinging mammals
-important for agriculture and food production

Yellow Jackets
-a type of wasp
-very defensive
-LOVE sugary drinks, garbage and BBQ food
-can sting multiple times
-often nest underground or inside walls
These are usually the insects bothering people at picnics in late summerโ€ฆ not honey bees.
They also become more aggressive in late summer and fall as food sources decline and their colonies begin breaking down before winter.

Paper Wasps
-thinner bodies with long legs
-build small umbrella-shaped nests
-generally less aggressive than yellow jackets
-legs hang down during flight

Hornets
-large social wasps
-build paper nests
-predators of other insects
-protective around their nests

And now the two insects people keep confusing online:
1) Asian Giant Hornet
nicknamed the โ€œmurder hornetโ€ by the media
-VERY large
-orange/yellow head
-predator of insects including honey bees
-received huge media attention

Asian Hornet (Vespa velutina)
-different species than the Asian Giant Hornet
-darker body with yellow legs
-known for hunting honey bees
-hovers outside hives and attacks returning foragers
-major concern in parts of Europe

One VERY important takeawayโ€ฆ
Not every large flying insect is an โ€œAsian hornet.โ€
Every single year harmless native insects are wrongly identified online which causes panic and misinformation.
Correct identification matters.

And believe it or notโ€ฆ wasps and hornets are actually important parts of nature too. Many species help control pest insects and help maintain balance in ecosystems.
That being saidโ€ฆ I still do not want yellow jackets flying around my drink.

This is where we rehomed a bumblebee colony taken from under a partially demolished shed in Frenchay. Thank you to Hayley Bateman who was happy to take them in and rehome them! ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿฅฐ

We need 2 more homes wanting to take in some calm, placid fluffy Bumblebees who are great polinators. They will be put into green waterproof nuc box so you dont need to worry about finding a box. One colony is being saved from Calne Wednesday 7pm, and Thursday 6am in Bath. If you want to have a box of gentle fluffy bees in your garden, then get in touch. 07915 633648

We received an enquiry to have solar panels proofed to stop pigeons nesting under them from recommendations of customers who have also has their solar panels meshed to keep birds out by Beekind Pest Control.

We did the Beekind Go The Extra Mile Way by, making sure all gutters were cleaned, old nests removed (aswell as a dead pigeon underneath) plus spike the chimney stack using the Defender Bird Spikes and their chimney pot spikes in terracotta colour, alongside replacing 2 broken tiles, render repair on the stack and face of the string course, and installing black painted galvenised steel mesh around both sets of panels.

The customer sourced their own scaffolding but followed the guidelines we asked for it to be installed which made our job easier and safer.

There is no way we would do any of this work off ladders. We would like to go home after a days work, where some customers expect us to do it off ladders and probably wouldnโ€™t care if we fell off the roof as long as they saved money. We will never risk our lives to save customers money by working off ladders.

If you need solar panels proofed to stop birds getting under them, then get in touch for a free no obligation quote. We offer a 10yr guarantee with all our bird proofing services so this means you can be rest assured, they wont get back under but if they did, you donโ€™t have to pay for anything again (apart from scaffolding or access via hired equipment).

When buying a property, it is recommended that a home buyers survey is carried out to determine if there are any issues with the property.
If the report comes back with active or historic woodboring insect holes seen in timbers, then get in touch and we can check and advise if a treatment is required or not.

Permethrin based products are great for dealing with common furniture beetle but not death watch! This requires a much deeper investigation to determine the root cause of DW being active.

If you need to talk to an expert regarding woodworm then get in touch below

A white buff tailed bumblebee colony removed from under a shed that was being demolished and replaced for a brand new one. Unfortunately the bees needed to be removed for their safety and for the builders coming to lay down a concrete floor.

We have these girls in the box at our home, but if you would like to have them for your home then get in touch. We can arrange for you to collect them safely, no bee suit required but guidance will be given for locating and releasing the bees so you are 100% safe.
