This is a photograph of the area under the paving stones adjacent to a manhole which had to be repointed. The repointing work had to be done to prevent rats leaving the drains and living under the pathways and driveway. You can see the extent to which these natural survivors can tunnel under concrete. The paving stones will have to be relaid as there is virtually no support for them and they are rocking from side to side. Thankfully, they never got into the house.

Just finished a mole job in Chippy. I set twelve duffus traps next to the river on the lawn. This hot weather, moles will tend to frequent the most moist ground, which is where the worms are. I got one double catch and two singles. A total of four, which is a job done for now.

Bee season again. Set up camp in a chimney of a thatched house. Each side of the chimney, which was extended about 10 years ago, has two holes about 20mm diameter in exactly the same corresponding positions. They look as though they were drilled there on purpose (ventilation?) The bees are using all 4 holes to exit/ enter. The pot with the 'hat' on is blocked off. The bees are below the other pot between the flue liner and the brickwork and are getting into the living room downstairs and stinging people. They've made various attempts to block out the bees from the living room with tape and filler to no avail

I was called to a lovely old house in the village of Oving in Buckinghamshire this week. They were suffering from an influx of queen wasps finding their way in. Thought I'd have a look in the attic and found this monstrosity. For the uninitiated, this is a wasps nest, or rather, at least three wasps nests next to each other. The lighter ones are the newer ones. The structure is over three feet across. I'm going back on Thursday next week to remove the whole thing

New mole job in Steeple Aston. Very few molehills in a beautiful garden. I managed to get 12 traps in using runs beneath flattened molehills. I'll go back on Friday to see if we've caught.

I was wondering why I was constantly filling up my bird bath. It even washes under its armpits (wingpits I suppose)
