On Wednesday, we celebrated Book Day by talking all things books! 📖❤️

We enjoyed discussing our favourite books and sharing memories about the stories and characters that have stayed with us over the years.

Kathy also spent time having one to one chats with each resident, asking them about their favourite book and finding out what makes it special to them. It was lovely hearing everyone’s different choices and stories. 🥰📚

Yorkshire Day 🫖💙

On Tuesday, we celebrated Yorkshire Day by talking all things Yorkshire throughout the morning! 🥰

We then got busy in the kitchen making some delicious Yorkshire puddings, followed by a taste test which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone! 😋

A lovely morning full of good conversation, great food and a little taste of Yorkshire! 💙

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came along to our Summer Fair yesterday! ☀️💚

It was wonderful to see so many people from Alvaston and the wider community come together to support our residents. Every purchase, donation and conversation has helped raise funds for our Residents’ Fund, which will go towards creating even more special activities, outings and experiences for those who call The Yews home.

Today we’re sharing some photos of our fantastic stallholders and the incredible time, talent and creativity they put into making the beautiful items they had for sale. Thank you for helping make the day such a success.

A special thank you also goes to everyone who helped organise the event. Your hard work behind the scenes made the whole afternoon possible.

Finally, a heartfelt thank you to our wonderful residents, who worked so hard helping us prepare for the day and warmly welcomed everyone into their home. We couldn’t have done it without you.

We’ll be sharing the grand total raised once everything has been counted and tallied next week, so keep an eye on our page!

Summer Fair Tomorrow! 🎉

The excitement is building as we put the finishing touches in place for tomorrow’s Summer Fair! 🌼

Today, our wonderful residents got involved by helping to clean the outdoor furniture, chatting, laughing and enjoying being part of the preparations. A big thank you also to Peter, Ken and Kathy for lending a helping hand your support is greatly appreciated. 💚

We can’t wait to welcome everyone tomorrow for an afternoon of fun, games, refreshments and great company. See you there! ☀️

🌟 Employee of the Month – Congratulations, Trish! 🌟

A huge congratulations to our wonderful Senior Carer, Trish, on being voted Employee of the Month by her colleagues.

Over the past few weeks, Trish has really stepped up, taking on extra responsibility and supporting the team during a period of change. She is always there to offer guidance, encouragement and a helping hand, and her dedication hasn’t gone unnoticed.

The fact that she was nominated and voted for by our carers makes this recognition even more special. Thank you, Trish, for everything you do for our residents and your colleagues. We truly appreciate your hard work, compassion and commitment.

The past two weeks at The Yews have been full of fun, laughter and plenty of wonderful moments! ☀️🧸🍫

Our mornings started with exercise sessions led by Pam, Peter and Betty, helping everyone stay active and moving.

There was lots of friendly competition and creativity too. Residents enjoyed games, jigsaw puzzles and colouring with Pat, Alan, Betty, Peter and Peter H. Pat and Joan spent time colouring together, while Mavis, Ann and Fred had a great game of dominoes. A special well done to Pat, who completed a beautiful colouring picture that she was incredibly proud of and so were we! 🎨👏

Tin Can Alley brought plenty of smiles with Doreen, Peter and Rene showing off their skills, followed by a lively game of bingo enjoyed by Pat, Alan, Mavis, Sylvia and Pat.

To celebrate World Chocolate Day, everyone got involved in making delicious cornflake cakes, and our fantastic staff couldn’t resist joining in the fun too! 🍫 We snapped some sweet photos of the team enjoying their chocolate treats and celebrating together.

We were also delighted to welcome some furry friends for a very special Teddy Takeover at The Yews, finishing the fun with a wonderful Teddy Bears’ Picnic. 🧸💚

With the warm weather continuing, we made the most of the cooler parts of the day by spending time relaxing and socialising in the garden, enjoying the fresh air and sunshine together.

Thank you to our amazing residents and dedicated team for making every day so special. Here’s to creating many more happy memories together! ❤️

Today’s schedule at The Yews was very demanding… 🎨🧶☕

Colouring masterpieces were created by Mavis, Shirley, Ken, Pat and Susan, Pam kept the knitting department running smoothly, Peter and Pat enjoyed a catch up, and then Mavis and Ann took on the great outdoors.

The mission? A leisurely stroll… ending with a completely accidental stop at Birds for a cup of tea. We’re fairly sure the cake had nothing to do with the route. 😉🍰

Creative activities keep hands and minds active, knitting helps maintain dexterity, and getting out into the community with a good walk and great company boosts both physical and emotional wellbeing. Add tea and laughter, and that’s a recipe for a wonderful day! 💚
