A really nice example of what I’m checking your dogs teeth and gums for when I ask for photos prior to first cleans, as well as what I check at every appointment!

You’ll also see me pressing on the gums to check the capillary refill time (CRT). A healthy dogs normal CRT is 1-2 seconds. Anything quicker than that indicates high blood pressure, inflammation and prolonged stress. Anything longer indicates poor blood flow, anaemia, low blood pressure and dehydration! I won’t clean any dogs teeth that doesn’t have the normal CRT and you’ll be promptly told and advised to contact your vet 🫶🏼

For anyone that doesn’t know me, I am a dog nutrition NERD. During my bachelors degree, I submitted my dissertation on how commercial dog food impacted dog obesity! I even went as far as making my own dog food, working out exact ingredients down to the macro and micro nutrient for each of my individual dogs 🤓 Alongside my bachelors degree, I’ve completed several diplomas in canine nutrition as well as attended countless seminars on the topic. I teach Animal care and absolutely adore teaching nutrition to the students and actually showing them the food commonly fed to dogs isn’t as good as it’s marketed!

Not only has nutrition always been a passion of mine and something I am heavily qualified in.. it impacts oral hygiene so much. You will have heard me spark conversations at teeth appointments what you feed your dog.. that’s because 99% of the time I can already tell by looking at the teeth which type of food you feed and whether it’s high or low quality. The horses grazing on the land have returned. I’ve been a bit lenient with dogs off leads recently but as the horses are back and especially as there is a foal amongst them, you need to have your dogs on a lead when you arrive and when you leave. No exceptions whatsoever. This is the horses home, you are just visiting. Thank you in advance! 🫶🏼
