More rodents… a call this week after the customer had a leak through his utility room ceiling, the leak came from the drain for the en-suite shower upstairs - mice 🐭 gnawed through the plast drain.
Rodents teeth constantly grow - the Latin name for rodents is ‘ rodere’ - which means to gnaw. They’ve got to gnaw to keep their teeth filed down…. Just unfortunate that they often do in in waste pipes, washing machine hoses and plastic central heating pipes. 🐭🐭🐭

This is the same rat/ drain pipe but this time I sneaked to the side of the pipe - you can see clearly how the rat is constantly sniffing the air until I move my phone out from the side of the pipe 🐀🐀🐀

Rats… had a job this week at an old industrial unit that keeps getting rats… the source is this old disused drain pipe that’s never been capped off.
This allows rat after rat an exit from the drainage system and into the building.
Rats eyesight is probably their worst sense, although they pick up movement very easily, I’m standing dead still only a few feet away, not even blinking but if look closely you can see his nose is constantly twitching, he knows something isn’t right.
By understanding how their senses work you can use this to your advantage when try to catch them - using fresh attractant on traps for example will help entice them onto traps.

Had a call from a farmer…. “ are you the ‘rat man? can you come out and sort the rats in our shed? Can’t understand how they are getting in, we’ve went round and cemented all the holes……”

First inspection…. Rats gnawed through the cement 🐀🐀🐀 …. If you look closely you can see the rat print in the cement. The cement was either still wet when the rat made the hole or the cement mix was to weak.

But a good example of how persistent rats can be and a good example to make sure that proofing is 100%

First post in a long time…. And it’s a post about wasps, who are nearing the end of their season.
At this time of year wasps generally feed on sweet /sugary foods such as rotten fruit and you’ll often find them around picnic tables, bins etc trying to feed on anything sweet in the bins … but here’s a wasp on my bird table that is still feeding on protein, it’s busy eating mealworms completely oblivious to me standing filming it just a few centimetres from it.

I had a call today for wasps, but to early for a wasps nest, these are mining bees, they’re usually one of the first bees that you’ll see at this time of year.
They are a solitary bee and as my pictures prove, completely harmless 🐝

2 posts in one day 😳

Attended this job today, the wasps nest had been in the roof of the shed but due to it’s size and weight it must have fell at some point, the wasps then repaired It and rebuilt it on the floor of the shed, they also tried to repair the area where the nest had been in the roof.

You’ll notice my hand moving quickly at the end of the video… I had 2 wasps telling me I was getting to close 😂🐝

A call tonight to a wasps next on a public path… when I attended it was easy to see they weren’t happy - the nest had been ripped open by a badger 🦡
Badgers often dig them up to eat the eggs and larvae… it must taste good and be worth the effort to endure the attention of about 1000 wasps 🐝

Rats 🐀

Attended a call today to a pub, the owner thought that the staff were eating all the Mars bars and Snickers 🙈….turns out it was a light fingered rat raiding the sweets during the night.
I’m total 10 Mars bars and 5 snickers were taken dragged under the panel below the bar… 😳
