I swept a stove this week and the owner stored the wood touching the fire (see pic). I told them that this was extremely dangerous as the stove's operating temperature is in excess of 350°C and the heat transfer could very easily set the wood alight causing the whole pile to ignite.
Please don't store anything combustible (wood, coal, baskets, Christmas decorations) next to your fire! For free advice or to book an appointment for a sweep give me a call!

I've been to a couple of Chimney fires lately. Here's some great advice on the do's and don'ts!

When a fire is lit flammable deposits build up in the chimney and flue. If these are allowed to accumulate the heat from a fire can cause them to ignite, causing a chimney fire.

A very frightening experience I'm sure! Apparently the chimney was only swept 3 weeks ago, not by The Tidy Sweep!
