Did you know?
The Tour de France wasn’t created just for sport.

In 1903, a newspaper, L’Auto, was on the brink of collapse. Competition with its rival Le Vélo was fierce, and sales were plummeting. L’Auto needed a way to outdo its competitor. Its director, Henri Desgrange, came up with a radical idea: a cycling race across France, covering immense distances under extreme conditions. The goal? Capture the public’s attention and sell more newspapers.

The gamble was bold. It became a triumph. Readers rushed to follow the race, sales soared, and the Tour de France made history.

What was meant to save a newspaper became one of the most watched sporting events in the world.

Did you know?
The Michelin Guide wasn’t created for gastronomy… but to sell tires.
In 1900, the André Michelin and Édouard Michelin brothers launched a small red guide, distributed free to motorists.

At the time, France had fewer than 3,000 cars. Inside, you could find maps, garage addresses, hotels… and a few restaurants.
The goal was simple: to encourage people to travel more, and therefore to drive more. The more you drive… the more your tires wear out.
It was only years later that the guide evolved, eventually introducing the famous Michelin stars, now considered one of the ultimate symbols of gastronomic excellence.

Did you know?

Champagne bubbles were originally considered a flaw.

In the 17th century, in the Champagne region, winemakers faced a phenomenon they feared: the appearance of bubbles in their wines.
Due to cold winters, fermentation would stop… then resume in spring, releasing gas inside the bottles. The result: unstable wines, sometimes even explosive.

These bubbles were seen as a defect, to the point that some called it “the devil’s wine.”

Yet what was once an anomaly gradually became a signature.
Over the centuries, producers learned to master this phenomenon… and turned it into an art.

Today, those very bubbles embody refinement, celebration, and French excellence around the world.
