Most emergencies at sea don’t start as emergencies.
They start with something small that was missed before departure.
A low fluid level.
A leak in the bilge.
An open hatch.
A seacock nobody checked.
A forecast nobody took seriously.
That’s why our #1 Safety at Sea rule is the 6 P’s:
Proper Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance. ☝🏼
Check the boat. Check the weather. Brief the people onboard. Know where your safety equipment is — and know how to use it.
And when it comes to weather:
Hope for better than forecast.
Prepare for worse than forecast.
Save this for your next departure and send it to someone you go boating with. ⚓️
We love boats. We also like to keep their owners & guests alive. 🙂
