Polyolefin is a family of synthetic polymers mainly including polypropylene and polyethylene. In textiles, the term “polyolefin” most commonly refers to polypropylene (PP).
This material is widely used in rugs, outdoor fabrics and some upholstery because it is:
• highly moisture resistant
• almost non-absorbent
• stain resistant
• lightweight
• resistant to mould and mildew
• fast drying
• more affordable than many other fibres
But like every material, it also has its own characteristics and limitations.
