Oil filled heating radiator repair.

There are thousands of these about, the cheapest being close to €50 new and some much more. Usually easy to repair. This one was no different. A dead thermal fuse. Not the easiest to find but there's usually one inside somewhere!

Fuse found, diagnosed dead and replaced. All good on test.

Contact me directly on WhatsApp or drop off items at the Albion food shop for repairs.

Makita BMR102 Building site radio repair.
No power, intermittent display.

When I took the front off I found it had been badly repaired in the past. A crack in the circuit board where the power comes in from the front power socket. The crack was not glued and the repaired joints had broken a second time. A good clean up, remove a thick black wire that bridged missing copper trace at the board edge. Glued, re-linked the traces properly. Still nothing. The front power socket was broken and badly repaired. A new socket. Now it works again.
These devices are very expensive and well worth repairing.
The Albion is open 6 days, 10 till 2 to accept repairs and collection of complete jobs. Refurbished equipment for sale also. See you there in person on Saturdays.

Incoming repair, a Makita site radio. Input power not working. I'll keep you all updated on this. It's Saturday so I'm in the Albion shop to receive it

It's getting colder now. I have 2 heaters left in the shop. This one is really nice. €35.
It's a convection heater with a built in fan blower. This is unusual as it means you can have instant directional heat without waiting for the convection heater to warm the room. Convection continues at the same time. It has a thermostat with 3 heat settings and heater off, fan blower on or off and a timer.
Very versatile and I only have the one.

Hi everyone.
Yesterday I collected my first single use v**e from the Albion collection boxes for recycling or repurpose. Just a quick post to show you all what I do with these things.

I break them down, I save the electronics and the lithium cell and separate the remaining case and parts for recycling. If the battery is good, they usually are, I recharge them on my bench power supply and soldering station to re-use them in small electronic projects. The cells can be used as replacement for dead cells in other small devices or in my case I have powered test equipment, led light strings in bottles, solar light etc

This particular cell was at 3.4v. I've charged it to 4.2v on the power supply. Now it's ready for a new project.

Millions of these are thrown away each day. If you use them, please put them in my collection boxes at the Albion, the same for one found in the street if you would pick it up for me.

It's Saturday again. I'm at the Albion shop with Paul.
Today an HP 17" laptop. It works but is slow. So an upgrade to the memory, currently 4Gb , I'll be doubling that to 8Gb or 16Gb if cheap enough. The hard drive is the other slow part, a Toshiba 1Tb. This needs to be changed for a solid state drive and then clone the operating system so no re-installation of the operating system and the customer's data and programs are retained. When it's done there's no difference to the software but much faster. This should keep the laptop useable for another few years.

I can now replace the cells in most lithium tool batteries at a lower cost than replacing them.
