THE ADVANTAGES OF DRY ICE BLASTING OVER SANDBLASTING
Machine downtime is dramatically reduced with dry ice blasting because the equipment can be cleaned on site. The dismantling of the systems is no longer necessary. Since the dry ice becomes gaseous again during the cleaning process, only the dirt has to be removed after cleaning. There is no damage to the surfaces because the cleaning medium is not abrasive, ie too soft to damage components.

DRY ICE BLASTING - THE PROCESS
Dry ice is carbon dioxide in its solid state. It is created by very quickly decompressing carbon dioxide that has been liquefied under pressure.
The cleaning effect of dry ice blasting is based on several mechanisms of action:
TEARING UP THE POLLUTION
During dry ice blasting, the dry ice, which is minus 78.5 degrees Celsius, is dosed in the form of approx. 3 mm pellets into a jet of compressed air and blasted onto the cleaning object at high speed. The dirt layer cools down, contracts and becomes brittle. The sudden, isolated cooling creates considerable tension so that it ruptures. In addition, the dirt layer detaches itself from the substrate.
NOT ABRASIVE
Since dry ice is a relatively soft blasting agent, dry ice blasting is not abrasive like comparable processes using sand as the blasting agent, for example. Another advantage of using dry ice as a blasting agent is that it converts directly into the gaseous state. The disposal and processing of used cleaning agents is no longer necessary. Only the dissolved dirt itself has to be disposed of. As a result, dry ice blasting is the first choice for many areas of application as a gentle and economical process
SUBLIMATION
When it hits the surface, the dry ice sublimates, ie it immediately changes to the gaseous state. This increases the volume by a factor of six hundred. This intensifies the effect of the fast air jet and results in the brittle layer of dirt being removed from the material surface during dry ice blasting.
